Speed 6 engines sortted, my ar*e
Discussion
I had the engine rebuilt on my cerb at the end of last year due to worn cam followers, the car had covered 18,000 miles. The car went in for its service and mot couple of weeks ago, just got a phone call from the dealer to let me know that some of the followers have "gone soft" and I now need another rebuild after only doing about 6000 miles. I checked the oil weekly and never over reved it so I don't understand why they haven't lasted.
sorry to hear about your probs. As a new s6 owner i,ll show my ignorance ,,, Cam follers seem to be main issue, these should be relatively cheap and all work at top of motor so why such a big job? Indeed why dont tvr swap followers on all suspect motors before it turns into something more serious. tho it sounds like new ones are no better! Is the 3.6 any better than 4.0 ? Some motors seem to have reasonable milage and no probs, others v low before rebuild, what are the signs of wear? i,m starting to get paranoid,,

The top half of my engine was rebuilt last time but the whole engine has to be cleaned inside so no metal particals can damage the rest of the engine. The first time the followers went I noticed a tapping noise frome the engine, this time the dealer picked up the fault when it was in for a service, an exhaust valve was not closing fully I think.
Another one goes "Pop" Plug that's a real shame fella. Sorry to hear about your plight. I would demand a free rebuild. Have you also thought about the TVR Craft option? Expensive I know... Good Luck with whatever route you take. Maybe you could ask for a TVR loan car for the duration
On another note R TOY. Is that your numberplate? I'm sure I have seen it around Peterborough way on an M Roadster???

But if the valve isn't closing then that is a "metal on" condition not a wear condition, or the valves have stretched as they do when they are new.
I'm sorry to hear of your problems. Its a sad situation all in all with the SP6. If I were you after already (I believe wrongly) being stung once I would be asking for a free rebuild. If not I would be writing to the MD of TVR asking if he thought the situation was acceptable for his customers, with the knowledge that you reserve the right to publish the letter on here and in the press.
Unfortunately people who own TVRs love them, and I know it is a cliche, but love is blind! If the rebuild situation was happening to any other manufacturer (let alone having needing more than one) there would have been legal action and it would have been made public on Watchdog, Top Gear or similar.
The fact that it is obvious that there have been either design or manufacture problems is bad. But to repair/replace these and still having the same problems occur is truly unacceptable.

Bloody hell, hope the garage are doing under warranty and giving you a sagaris as a loan car!! Or do they just blame the parts? Hoping you get sorted. Oh, MATS, yep its my reg no. with a single no..but not on a bmw, must've been one of other 8. guessin R1 will be on a bike, R5 will be on a ford and i know R9 is for sale for,, £2.5k.. must be avin a larf..
