4.0L standard re-build ,
Discussion
I'll leave out the boring details but I'm looking at a rebuild potentially and my budget is sitting at standard build money...but I'm still tempted to go further. How many of you have gone for the standard rebuild and regretted it?
Has anyone Had a few extras done to the engine whilst rebuilding to 4.0L spec that are not going to break the bank but are noticeable? How much more is RR?
I've read up on the FFF head, the offerings by str8six and the big 4's by Dom...( and a few others) and I think my mind is made on taking her to Powers.
I know the Rover V8's well but I'm not there with the sp6 yet. Of course I will pick Dom's brain further but It would be great to get some feedback before I drop in there later this week.
Help!!

I was in a similar situation last year. I opted for a 4.3 build at Powers. My main reasoning was the increased low down torque you get with a 4.3. I had owned and driven my 4.0 Tuscan regularly for over 10 years and had pretty much had driven it to its limits. The thought of a fair chunk of extra torque whilst still retaining the reviness of the original was a no brainer for me. Also the 5 year warranty and new components made it a fairly easy decision. I know I would’ve regretted getting just a straight 4.0 rebuild.
I had a standard 4.0 rebuild at powers and looking back I should have went for the 4.3. I think you get the difference back in value when you come to sell as the 4.3 is desirable to a potential purchaser and you get the 5 year warranty. But the price will be more than the advertised amount There are always add ons so it aint cheap. If money is tight get a pretty tight quote for the work so you don't get a nasty shock when you go to collect it.

I think with engine builds you always end up with a shock.. While we are talking rebuilds, has anyone just gone for a head rebuild?
My Tam is on max shims for 2 cylinders due to valve seat recession.
Rest of the engine is fine.
Yes I may end up having the lot rebuilt after head work, but I was just wondering if getting the valve seats replaced adds any value in terms of selling later and reassurance while keeping the car.

Hi I rebuilt my own engine using the head kit from tvr parts, new liners ,rings and anything else suspect replaced,I personally think the 348bhp printed out (and more if I change the injectors as recommended by jooles) is enough for the road , the car is great on Lincolnshire A roads, and fine on the motorway
