Tuscan SP6 rebuild time
Discussion
Hi
I will be rebuilding my speed 6 early next year, I did research what the weak points are a few years back and just wanted to check I have remembered all the issues!
Finger follower and valves
Oil feed modification ( inlet finger follower shaft mod to take oil from the back end of the engine to the exhaust finger follower shaft)
Half time bearings
Is the RG simplex xonversion worth doing?
Im going to check the bearings on the bottom end and fit some total seal piston rings. As far as I remember the bottom end is fine on standard BHP but anything uprated and the rods need to go is that correct?
Thank you, and sorry I am sure this is covered many times on this thread, please send a link to save answering twice!
Regards

- Cams and finger followers must be changed as a set.
- Half time bearings convert to rollers, sprocket must be bored out a bit to accomodate. Not needed if going with the simplex kit
- simplex kit, IMO no. The only advantage over fitting better bearings is the chain not hitting the valve cover (which on mine was slightly marked after 50k miles)
- check for Indian conrods (don't have proper tvr logo cast on them)
- check bores for wear. Later pistons have a higher gudgeon pin and ceramic coated skirts to alleviate this problem, though regular oil changes and not driving a sick engine should work too
