Differences between Str8six and Powers 4.3?
Discussion
I emailed Jason at Str8six, initially about retrofitting aircon to my Tam (which they no longer do due to scarcity of parts)
I asked how much the Powers Performance 4.3 upgrade would be if Jason undertook the work, and it is £9k + VAT, so almost £11k compared to Dom's £9k including the VAT, injectors and heavy duty starter motor.
I emailed back, asking what else is done over and above Power's 4.3 to warrant an extra £2k, and it seems the only difference is that Str8six ceramic coat the manifolds.
Can anyone confirm that this is the only difference - I don't mind paying extra if I know it is worth it?

I did ask. I know exactly what Dom's includes, that's why I asked Str8six, as I couldn't find anything on their website, and I got a response:
They include injectors, uprated starter motor and ceramic coat the manifolds.
This is why I am asking on here, the ceramic coated manifolds shouldn't equate to £2k extra, should it?

Rent is more expensive in Oxford..I did ask. I know exactly what Dom's includes, that's why I asked Str8six, as I couldn't find anything on their website, and I got a response:

Having had Dom's 4.3 put into my Tam last May, I think you will find that Dom supplies all the bits, but Jason does some other elements to the cylinder head oil feeds. Whereas Dom has an engine or 2 completed on the shelf, Jason only "chooses" to do a 4.3 when he has sufficient time...........and charges for that "personal bit and the mods he thinks are needed"?I did ask. This is the "you pays your money and......."
HTH's ?

Just to add, sorry! They are not in competition! Both speak highly of each others work and products - they just approach it differently. Speak to both and determine what you want or need and can afford??

I understood when I was looking at them was the Jason did work on the oil pathways and a few other bits and bobs.
I thought so too, which is why I asked about the price differential. I would have thought that if work on oil pathways and a few other bits and bobs were carried out, over and above what Dom does, it would have been mentioned?if it were my money I`d consider the options very carefully, I`ve never been to Dom`s for any work, but have been to Jason so I`ll be a little biased, I do know Jason does other work that isn`t done by Dom, the best way to find out is ask the men them selves, however if you go the Str8six route then the engine will be built by Jason himself, not one of his mechanics, that for me would swing it as you`d go a long way to find a better engine builder IMO.
So, would I be correct in assuming that some think the extra ££ is down to extra care and attention afforded to the rebuild?
With that in mind, are there any disappointed customers who used the less expensive 4.3? AFAICT, everyone that's had the upgrade, whether Jason or Dom, have been very happy with the work.

Perish the thought that one of Dom's mechanics is a better engine builder than Jason?!? K4TRV said:
ah, yes, I now remember that was his first criteria when I discussed rebuilding/upgrading my 3.6! Dom's price accepts what you have and you get "another" block IIRC!
Not sure I would want a new block. If mine was OK having been through many heat cycles I can't see the advantage of a new block that wold be a bit of an unknown in that respect.shep1001 said:

You won't be getting a new block with these rebuilds. When I rebuilt mine I spoke to dom about a new block. He has a very small number. Ie less than 10. The cost is approximately 2.5k + vat.
Urban hurst who originally cast them have destroyed the casts.
So we can put this urban rebuild myth to bed.

When they took mine to bits thanks to a South West rebuild the block was pretty much destroyed due to the oil pump failing and dragging every bit of metal through the engine so a new block was needed anyway. (this happened twice PM me for info).
However there were some new blocks around but unsure where they have come from.
