What does increasing the capacity do to the drivability...
Discussion
I'd be interested to hear owners views who have upgraded from a 3.6 to a 4/4.3/4.5.
I have to confess I'm suffering the disease which dictates I want more without actually needing it. I love the way the smaller engine just explodes the car down the road when on cam and just revs so high and freely with that epic rasp, in this respect I don't think I would want more. However it's the lack of low down torque that is starting to bug me, especially since decatting. I don't necessarily want to have to change down everytime I go past a diesel repmobile when the driver decides to put his foot down!
I'm sure the obvious increase in torque and top end power is a given, however how do they 'feel' (and sound) after the 3.6?

I went from a 3.6 to a Str8six 4.3 in my T350 earlier this year. Very happy with the results.
In general pottering about I can do most things a gear higher than before. The increased torque is noticeable. It still loves revs, is much smoother, and if I put my foot down it feels much faster than before. The noise is better too (decatted).
Go on - it does what you're after.

I run a 4.3 in the Tam ion the down side it's not as punchy in the lower revs as 3.6 you've got to get it on cam which Is Around 500rpm up the rev range than 3.6 so you've got to thrash it which is not a problem on the 4.3....for me I don't particularly like it as I prefer V8s but it's still a cracking engine... But whether it stops in the Tamora is a different matter.....
For me the 3.6 is a much nicer linear engine to drive.... it just lacks good quality torque

Thanks all, just lost a long response to my companies server
To summarise, SteveO and Buzz have either of you changed gearing as your driving experiences seem different regarding torque delivery?
jcpg very impressive power curves there. I keep meaning to convert all the at the fly figures to wheel figures so it is easier to compare.
Is there a consensus as to transmission losses, I seem to remember 15%?

Try both a Power offering and the FFF before you buy.
All I can say from experience is that the 4.0 FFF is not only much more powerful, it is much more driveable. It feels planted and compliant in town (30mph in 4th) and like a screaming racer when you get her high in the rev range. 7500 revs and there is no noticeable loss of power.

Wouldn't say that looking at the graphs. All I can say from experience is that the 4.0 FFF is not only much more powerful,
The 'My rebuild is better than your rebuild' st is (should be) dead and gone.
I have a powers 4.5 in my T350 and its like chalk and cheese, I never liked the 3.6 you had to rev it to get it going up and down the gear box all the time, I wanted an engine with more torque, the 4.5 is so much more driveable at low revs it just burbles along and sits at 70 on a motorway with ease you can hardly hear the engine, easier around town but when you push that loud pedal it flies and just keeps pulling, not cheap but to me worth every penny, 5 year unlimited mileage warranty if serviced by other TVR garages if serviced by powers 100,000 miles no matter how many years it takes enough said
You will not regret it
Nice results from the dyno
