Hi
Has anybody swapped 4.0l spd 6 for 3.6 spd?
After snapping number 4 con rod and a gaping hole in the side of the block I'm finding it hard to find a replacement 4.0ltr engine and have seen a used 3.6ltr for sale.
I could go for a recon engine but with no exchange engine works out a bit pricey!
Hopefully my engine will be stripped by next weekend and the full extent of damage known and wether the block can be repaired.

Will 4.0ltr Red Rose engine ecu and injectors work ok with the 3.6ltr.
Is there any other complications swapping from a 4.0 to a 3.6
Appreciate any advice
Thanks in advance
Steve

You could take the crank from your 4.0 and put it in the 3.6 block with new forged roads. That would be the safest route mechanically. Your taking another risk on the rods in the 3.6.

There's a thread similar to yours in the tuscan section titled 'disaster'.

Thanks for the info, Is there an issue with 3.6 rods or because of the higher potential load from the 4.0 fuel control

Thanks M4, I read the thread 'Disaster' I now see the common problem, Not sure what to do yet until I get the engine stripped. Hopefully I can get the block repaired and then a set of forged rods.
Thanks for the advice

Where's the engine going for re-build ? If it's Power, DOm will give you very sound advice, and as the 3.6 and 4.0 share the same block and head (stroke is different) you should have no problem using a 3.6 as a 4.0 re-build (or even a 4.3/4.5 if funds permit). Dom, Jason and others only use much, much higher quality forged rods and billet steel cranks these days, so your re-build wil be a much better place to be....

Paying for a re-build and keeping old internals like rods might be another disaster waiting to happen
