Engine Rebuilders
Discussion
Hi to all, I have been reading the recent posts on speed six rebuild issues, it does make interesting reading, is it possible to get a list of people or companies TVR or other who do engine work, people mention all sorts of things that have gone off but no details sometimes, ie 4.1 conversion gone wrong, Im looking to do or get work done on my engine so trying to gather info before I start, cheers Steve
I would only use
St8 Six
Tvr powers performance
APM
Racing green
There are other companies that ofer a lot yet deliver nothing apart from hart ache
Think very carefully before you decide
Don't let price dictate who you choose
I'm not saying that because I'm a millionaire ( really I'm not )

Compare and contract recent posts with my dealing with TVR Power for my 4.5 rebuild.
Did I have to pay anything up front ? - No
Did Dom keep me informed as every step ? - Yes
Was the price I finally paid the same as originally quoted ? - Yes
Did I get to drive my car before I handed over my wad ? - Yes
Do I get a five year unlimited mileage warranty ? - Yes
Did it take only three weeks from Power getting my car to my picking it up ? - Yes
Am I like a kid with a new toy running it in as fast as I can ? - Yes
Given some of the horror stories posted on these forums over the years I know where I'd spend my money. ( Clue - I already have !!!)

I wish if gone to power iv been dealing with Dom over the last few weeks
And he has treated me with the upmost respect and has been bending over back wards to help me out
Which had not happend with the previous engine builder
Who has lied to me messed me around
And returned me a scrap engine and is still making false promises to sort it out
There are some good guys and some truly shocking guys who should not be aloud to trade

Thanks for all the feed back, only wish we could name people or the company who dont perform only in a positive way tho lol , Some good news tho the head is in tip top condition after being stripped and inspected by a head specialist close to hand with the most upto date parts and only needs a clean and valves lapping in plus shimming, the block is looking good but will need rebore or liners tho, so the phone will be hot tomorrow, Steve
My advice on this would be what I am doing just now:-
I have enjoyed the 'open and uninhibited' discussion on engine builders that has been the content of other threads. However, with the notion that a full rebuild costs thousands, best thing to do is call up the companies in question and pay them a visit.
I have done so with 2 so far and will visit another 2 early next year. I live in NE Scotland, so it does cost a few hundred to make the journey south.
Thankfully, my S6 is in rude health, so I may be a while from facing the need for 'engine out'. IMHO there is nothing better than face to face for a couple of hours. From that you can see their premesis/ set up, taking directly to staff, look at lovely bits of new engine parts and from there form a fair impression of what they are like.
The forums can be a source of wonderful and detailed information and advice to keep our cars the way we like them, but going to 'source' is invaluable.

Ditto that... Had my Tamora updated to 4.3 this year with Dom at TVR Power, a straight talking guy easy to deal with and great staff. The price was only a few hundred quid away from what he quoted me and did the build in just under 3 weeks. He kept me upto date with the rebuild process all the way.Str8-Six
