About how much where the under bonnet temps reduced with the decat ?
Do you still have the old MBE ECU ? As far I know, tuning is anyway limited there.
Comparing the performance with and without cats (and a "wrong" chip), you obviously made the same experience as I did. In my opinion and from what I have seen on PH, the benefits are minimal with a decat chip. You will gain a few HP on the dyno (especially at high rpm), which you probably not even feel on everyday road use. Can't understand why so many TVR owners spend so much money for so little power gain.

Under bonnet temps and cabin heat soak are reduced dramatically. The n/s engine mount also lasts much longer and chassis scorching damage in the area is also stopped. It also sounds a lot better with more pops and bangs when you want them.

I don't have the decay chip and looking at my power curve, not sure where it would give any worthwhile improvements. It does breathe noticeably better at higher revs though smile

So many pros to doing it, with the only con being MOT time where you either slot them back in, or have a friendly MOT garage.

not sure what ecu, I assume its the std one fitted to a red rose in 2001.I does run a little cooler but nothing to dramatic, but the noise on full throttle without the cats fitted is simply stunning

Beside the under bonnet temperature or performance advantages, i would be much more interested if there are any benefits i.e. correct mapping/fuel mixture. Some say that if decatted, engine is running lean, some say it's running richer. That confuses me.

Also i'd like to know if there is a chip for the 3.6, too ?

Don't see why "backpressure" from a cat should cause an engine running lean/rich ? The Lambdas are before the cats.

That's what i'm thinking. But why then a decat chip ? Can't be just marketing.

Back in the day I remember it was designed so that on a non S spec engine it would still just about pass an MOT emissions test. Not sure if this is still the case though?

What it essentially is though is a generic map tweaked to take advantage of the now freer flowing exhaust system, with talk of a possible 10-15hp increase. Although I'm not sure it's designed for S-spec engines still?

I wonder if it would be suitable for the red rose specced engines

I'm not sure about hp gains
But running cats will increase fuel consumption
That's all I know
Cats are fitted to please some one in Europe

It was 30hp on the example map IIRC and it will not get through an MOT from my experience.

30 horse power seems a lot doesn't it
