After 12 years and 58k miles my original S6 engine decided to eat itself last week with a full re-build required. It all happened rather quickly with a rattle and then full loss of oil pressure - it was over in seconds.

TBH I will be quite happy to get a modernised engine that doesnt sounds like a sewing machine and with a welcome return of all those horses that escaped over the years.
I've decided to put some new carbon cans on and to get all 4 wheels refurb during the rebuild and some body work touched up here and there. Cant' wait to pick her up in about 4 weeks time smile

I'm trying to ignore the bill and hope some noughts fall off.

Question - my Son has asked me if I could retrieve some of the more intersting bits of the old S6 engine for keeps sake, any suggestions on what "interesting" bits could be salvaged and cleaned up to go in his bedroom?
Thanks
Russ

Might aswell make it a 4.3 or 4.5 or even a 5 litre ... Pistons would make ashtrays, but you shouldn't encourage him to smoke smile .

I'm sorry to hear your bad news. But out of curiosity, what exactly are you replacing it with? Are you going for another rebuilt S6? Same size or bigger? Or perhaps a Chevy block.

Sorry to hear about the engine. Same for me and all very sudden - drop in pressure, odd noises then white smoke and oil everywhere. 35k miles

Good luck with the choice. Can only get better now.

At 12 years old your S6 engine was one of those deemed to be of 'poor build quality' so 58k miles either suggests that the build quality wasn't that bad or you have done a great job of nursing the engine. Still sorry to hear of the demise and wish you well with the re-build.

Yes - I was quite surprised for that year of car it lasted that long. Regular servicing and warm up procedure followed.
