Red should mean standard 4 liter engine. There are other options like silver and blue (standard 3.6 and 3.6RR). Somebody more knowledgeable will be along soon.

Nikolai Slomenski introduced the colour coding in 2004/5

Red is 4 litre "S" engine .. so either Sag or Tuscan S
Blue is 4 litre standard
Black is 3.6 litre

Prior to that cam covers were left unpainted.

I've opted for matching body colour since upgrading my "S" to a 4.5 Super Sport cool

PS Nowadays don't believe the cam cover paint is original and means the above whistle . It's a bit like writing RR in felt tip on your engine block or CR on your gearbox.

PPS How many people know the cam covers were modified with these extra bits , so that oil would drip on the finger followers ?

One of TVR Powers (Power Performance) 4.5s will give you lots more torque but it maybe worth getting Power to put it on the rollers and have a bespoke fuel mapping first ... not much of a performance improvement but it will run smoother across all rev ranges. To de-cat or not is the question ? and check your exhaust pipe diameter. A Tuscan S would be 60 mm external ... I wonder what they put on your T350 ?

Or you could pay the same money, and get a Racing Green FFF that produces considerably more bhp, and the same torque as a 4.3...

There are others out there that are doing work as well - it's looking more and more that the S6 loves to breathe.

Thanks guys.
Altho and im sure the capacity is enough so its really about tuning what there is tbh.
Somewhere in the paperwork it does mention cat removal but there is the feeling of suffocating in the performance.
Whos best for mapping...

Normal service and a map/tune up, Dom at TVR Power and Jason at Str8-Six are the names normally mooted around. I'll never discount Racing Green.... Joolz does great work as well, from what I hear.

Seems to me you need more than just engine work for big numbers, upgraded airboxes, upgraded exhaust, de cats, bespoke mapping/ecu, good fuel, it all starts to get very expensive and you have to be a true Tvr fanatic to go down that road especially when a ls3 transplant could be done for the same money offering lots more torque, if any S6 builder could build me a real 450bhp 400lbft s6 engine that revs like my 4s with a 5 year warranty for £15k I would book it in tomorrow for the upgrade.

I would recommend Dom (Jason will do it smile ) @ Power @ Coventry ..but I maybe a little biased smile .

I found Powers' Jason (confusing have two Jasons) to be "sympathic" with the engine ... Full revs for 15 mins needs a bit of care.

Yes and no - my cost is roughly the same as a full-house Power, less than the 5.0. Yes, I've added bits to it, but that's all in the final cost (for me, the £15k area). A full-house LS3 transplant costs more than my engine as it stands... So you pays your money, you take your choice!

At last...
Thanks.
I have to say im not an ls fan and dont want to spend out on an engine conversion.
It was just to bring out the red top beast that at the moment is a little sleepy.

Spitfire4v8 is his name! (Sorry).

Any decent 'name' garage should be able to help you out - even if it's just a retune, or to diagnose something. Good luck!
