Out of interest how much oil should a Mk1 Tuscan S use (2003)?
It seems to me to go through quite a lot, yet there is absolutely no blue smoke (either at start up or during easy/hard driving) nor are there any leaks. The engine runs nicely, idles nicely, oil pressure is consistent and the fans etc all operate correctly. The engine oil is also crystal clear (was services some 650mls ago at HHC).
Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard
Originally was quoted I think(others may correct me) at 1L/1000miles. www.mytuscan.co.uk quote 1L/1500 miles.
What is your oil consumption now?
Will have a wee look on Sunday when I am down.
G
Ps Currently trying to rebuild my bonnet as I sheared a pin holding the bonnet on as well as polishing
Also had a brown trousers moment when my gearstick decided to drop a bolt and lost all gears

I'll check it more accurately this weekend as i'll be putting a few miles on the clock down to Corbridge and back, i reckon it might be higher than 1Ltr/1000mls though.
Regardless it's a bugger of a thing to check anyway, I've followed the engine hot and cap NOT screwed back in method...

I found you can get a different level 5 times in a row with the hot method. Even a matter of seconds can change the result as the oil drains back.
I've been doing the cold level measure where oil is visible just on the tip of the dip stick. The confusing thing with this is checking when the engines hot/just shut down the corresponding hot level is halfway up the dip stick. I'm yet to find a reliable way of measuring the level. A window on the tank would be handy.

I checked the level tonight cold (car not run since Sunday), it was half way up the dipstick. I think a call to HHC tomorrow to ask their opinion....I've been doing the cold level measure where oil is visible just on the tip of the dip stick. Depends which oil you use. I used to go through half a litre between services using 0W40. Then advised to switch to 10W40 and now don't even check between services as over the last 5 years it hardly uses any.

Thats what TVR Power recommend 10w40 semi synth, and its what I was using in mine, also with no measurable lossThen advised to switch to 10W40 and now don't even check between services as over the last 5 years it hardly uses any.
my car had the exact same oil consumption, on the 12k service I noticed valves clearance was tight and more worryingly the valve stem seals had broken up and were in the oil system.
I am not scare mongering and it could be something else entirely but would hate to see any non-repairable damage from an oil pump failure
