Hi,I can't seem to get the software to connect to windows Vista, my pc does not have a serial port so I am using a serial to USB extension.

I have changed the ports to com 1 on the software and the baud rate to 4800 ( as advised on other threads).

I have also followed this from an old thread. But still can't get it to work!!

Vista works as windows XP it is possible to tell the OS the emulate an earlier version for the ecudiags.exe file. In XP it is done like this:

1. Open the file explorer
2. Go to the directory where you have the ecudiags.exe file
3. Right click on the file and choose preferences, a dialog window will open
4. Choose compability
5. choose which version of windows that should be emulated

Any help would be appreciated

I am using a Dell PP29L laptop that is about 6 years old running windows Vista.

what windows does the software want?

either install that on laptop or use something like oracle virtual box and create the required vm..

usb to serial is often tempramental.. I suspect you may need an old laptop with serial port.

I have got my hands on a old lap top with the serial port and it is now up and running.

Way to much hassle using the serial to usb lead.

I went round this myself and installed a virtual box with win 2000 operating. Used a maplins serial USB converter as the ceheaper ones have caused problems for others.

It still isnt brilliant, cannot *quite* see all of the instrument readouts but you can make out what they are doing. But, i dont have an old laptop so i had no choice but to go this route...
