After fitting needle roller bearings 10000 miles ago I checked the play in the spindles recently, and found there was quite a lot of play in several of the throttle bodies. What gave it away was light throttle ‘jerkyness’ and gear changes were terrible (clunky when the clutch was released) and the butterflies were chattering on idle.

So, I resurrected a few bodies I bought on eBay™ that were off a newer model and voila! It’s like a different car. Even after I fitted the bearings it didn’t drive as well as this.

This has made me decide to go the other way and fit bronze bushes instead as a test to see if I can improve the efficiently even more. Before people say ‘did you seal the ones on the head properly’ I did.

I will keep you posted of the progress and findings. (Hi Linz)

You should have fitted ptfe steel backed bushes... Bronze with graphite a better alternative... How are you lubricating the solid bronze ones? With grease?
