I have noticed my oil return pipe doesn’t have one of these filters in the line....is this common...would you advise it as a retrofit? My engine has been rebuilt but its past failure was a popped shim – though it had done its damage before it got back to the tank, so maybe this isn’t really going to protect against this...is there any other point?

Im guessing the same is true for the filtermag, although it may reduce longer term wear by catching any particles....anyone have any experience?

I am always surprised how much crud the filter mag collects when pulling apart the oil filter after its changing.. Always use one and highly recommend them.

Knock up a shim catcher as per petrol head Petes guide.

Both the sump and the and the tank have magnetic plugs. Flush your tank you'll be surprised how much junk comes out. I did mine and the oil has remained remarkably clear.

Will have a look at the shim catcher thanks.

Oil tank will have to wait though - for one reason and another, its on its 3rd 8 litre vat of oil in only 5000 miles since the rebuild - so i a am certainly not in a hurry to replace the oil AGAIN!!

Just ordered a filtermag from filtermag.co.uk, £27 + vat and delivery.

Think I'll go check them out.. alot cheaper than the filtermag advertised at certain TVR specialist.

Sorry i just had the last one in stock getmecoat

Although i guess they will have more in at some point.

Im not a fan of sending my money the way of that certain specialist anyway!! I have only ever experienced 'over' pricing and 'under' service!!
