TVR Power 4.3 engine conversion in North Northamptonshire?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Having confirmed with Dom at Power that I'll go for the 4.3, I have come to the realisation that I have not had the chance to experience one first hand. When I had planned a test drive it was raining so I cancelled.
Is there someone nearby Junction 1 of the A14 that would be willing to give me their opinions of the engine and take me for a quick ride to experience the engine? (I had an 04 4.0 Tuscan so I have a baseline expectation)
Cheers,
Martin

When I picked it up the engine felt "tight" as you would expect plus keeping the revs low didn't really give any ideation of difference. As I put a few hundred miles on it and let the revs climb more the extra torque is noticeable and the car feels much more keen to get down the road. I have done well over 1000m so far but still not given it the full beans but even at steady throttle progression it really shifts. Significantly quicker than the 3.6 and when it's had it's service I would think quicker than just about anything.
I pick my T350 up this Saturday having just had the 4.3 conversion (bear in mind the need for injectors, starter mototr and possible other bits) and can't wait. Like yourself I never got to try a 4.3 beforehand but I've had so many assurances from people about how much smoother and torquier it is over the 4.3 that I went for it.
My mechanic (Mat Smith) is driving it around at the moment to bed it in ready for me to complete the running in and he reckons the low down grunt and overall smoothness of the engine is 100 times better than standard even with a new/tight engine. Hard part is going to be keeping the engine below 3.5-4k for the next few weeks but it'll be worth it.

When do you think you will have it run in Zip?
I'm hoping by the end of August - It's a weekend car but I'm going to try and cover a couple of hundred per weekend to get the running in out the way. What process did you go by for yours? Dom reckons warm it through as usual and then use revs to about 4k - sound about right with what you did?
Dom was on holiday so Jason handed over. He said go easy for the first few hundred miles (as you say keeping around the 3.5k mark) then gently increase the revs as you put the miles on but don't load or labour the engine I.e. use the gears and don't use full throttle. I think you need to use quite a bit of the rev range as you get closer to 1k but only with steady acceleration. You can actually feel the change in character and smoothness as you put the miles on. Not sure it's any quieter as you still get the mad ticking of the finger followers but it's definitely feels smoother and stronger. You are going to love it!

It wont be the tappets you can hear its the large upgrade injectors ticking away nicely Dom
Easier and more real-world to give you in-gear times for 80-100 which can be compared with anything else you have figures for; for my 4.2 (with TVR Power spec cams etc. same as 4.3) my datalogger shows consistently 2.0 secs in 3rd, my 3.6 on a 3.6 diff did it in 2.9 secs. The 4.2 times are with a lower than standard 3.9 diff which makes a small difference (I'm also on larger tyres).
The extra oomph is pretty noticeable as you'd imagine, even a Ferrari 458 takes 2.2 secs 80-100mph!
Don't know if Power has logged this for the 4.5 yet, but it may be even quicker...
Dom?

Thanks tail slide, that's the sort of info I was after, just need to save the money up for one! Getting a bit board with the 3.6 need a bit more power! cheers
You're welcome, glad the datalogger was useful. Usually it just tortures me after what i thought was a good run on track by highlighting numerous small errors! Edited by tail slide on Saturday 28th July 22:03
I picked up mine today and whilst I've not used any more than 4000 rpm and 1/2 throttle the torque and low down grunt is 100 times better than the 3.6, I can't wait until shes run in and I can strart exploring the top end.
I thought the running in period would be tedious but TBH theres more than enough power to have 90% of the fun I used to enjoy across the entire rev range.
