Rebuild time..gutted
Discussion
Just been given the news I really didn't want to hear..after almost 20K trouble free miles, top end re-build needed..finger followers were literally a knifes edge, couldn't come at a worse time with a wedding in under six months! (If I had a say I know which one I would choose)
Now it's all been digested I'm gauging what options I have in terms of a new head, has anyone had the GT spec RND Engineering head fitted? Is it worth the extra spend from a standard spec?
Thanks

I've just finished a complete re-build (top & bottom) and I’m in the process of running it in now. I used RND’s GT cams, finger followers and oil modification to the rear of the finger follower shafts. When the top cover was off I turned the engine over and I was quite amazed how quickly the oil appeared on the cam lobes, both inlet and exhaust.
If you have a look at:

This will give you some indication of what you can achieve. With 120 miles on the new engine it just wants to go! I have no doubt it has made a change. I can’t wait for it to be run in so I can see the gains on the dyno.
I've also purchased an Emerald ECU with a custom harness so I can now run a wide band lambda and sequential ignition.

I had a rebuild 10 months ago and went to TVR Power, I wanted a tried and tested rebuild that was proven to LAST and also came with a warranty. I have read far to many stories on here of people losing money being test mules for someones "development". TVR Power test there engine developments with a lot of miles at there own expense before they release it for sale. So very little risk to the purchaser and a warranty to boot.
RND did not come from nowhere either...and i like their no-nonsense approach (no I do not have shares).
I do not need a rebuild but will use this winter to do some bits and step by step improve cooling and re-gain lost numbers, have checked their parts lists and will start with some stuff from there.. Anyway it is each to their own I think.

Both dave at RND and Chris at Devon racing very helpful no sales pressure on telephone and their costs are a all shown although whilst talking to Dave he suggested anything that needs replacment whilst already having engine out is worth doing at the time which although is additional cost for the items it is only minimum hourly charges to replace drive in drive out in a week not bad service in my opinion should i need anything doing in the near future i'll be heading down to Devon
Davey dont i know it Mrs never stopped talking about your Chippendale bod only joking.OK matey thanks how goes it with you yeah seems a good car at mo has been well cared 4 in last 8 years but has only had the TVR rebuild not a proper job so to speak fingers/followers crossed seems ok at mo former owner TVR club member has body shop and garage facillity so be well tended.
I changed the CAM timing (with help from RND) to tune less for high RPM HP and more for low RPM torques. So I get basically 320 of each and torque curve is lifted at lower RPM. Subjectively it feels better at low revs. High revs it looses out but its all so frantic up there I hardly notice ...this thing still scares me
These are std lift CAMs. High lift ones seem to make quite a difference.

I need to rebuild my head the valve clearances have closed up on the exhaust valves the car had a full rebuild in 2007 by autocraft /tvr I discovered there was valve stem seal spring bits in the oil and on further inspection notice the valve guides are pushing up in to the head I know am in the middle of removing the head and the sump to clean it of debris (I know gearbox out bummer) I will inspect also inspect the oil pump.
Anyway I need to turn a negative into a positive and was thinking about gt cams with a head ,I would rather go the tvr power route they are tried and tested components they may start doing high lift cams but they said more gains can be had from a bigger bore exhaust I'm not sure Which route to go ideally i should do both .

Firstly, good lurking!
Ref the cams etc - personally I would go with a known product. Power might do cams at some point (if I'm reading this correctly), and we don't know about the other firm for sure.
With the breathing, there are lots of companies that offer products (my preference is ACT), and it won't stand in the way of you upgrading later on.
So my 2p - rebuild your own way, then breathing and remap. Anything else can be added later on.

Yes I was thinking powers clobber is the way to go he said come up there with the head and we will discuss the options he may be able to sell me some cams from their race car .
I just checked out act website nice upgrades no pics for the exhaust though
Right let's get this head out cheers Dom 1.
