My Sp6 Cerb engine temp has sat high (around 100)since I got it in january - today it worryingly reached 110 on admittedly a very warm day! There was no sign of any under bonnet problems but I shut it down for an hour then made my way home.
I want to start overhauling/improving? the cooling system now - can anyone point me in the right direction what to start with, renew/replace? etc... I'd prefer not to replace the Radiator unless as a last resort...

Start with checking if you have air trapped in the system.
Run the car up to temperature and raise the front end and turn the bleed screw on the top of the rad to release any air in the system.

Failing that

New thermostat ( TVR power)
New temperature sender (TVR power)
New silicon water pipes (ACT )
Stainless steel water pipe( ACT)
New or re cored radiator

Check fans for corroded electric contacts first. Just had the same issue with my Cerb.
First fan worked, second didn't.

I had exactly the same issue, established fans weren't kicking in.
Replaced the fan temp sensor and all sorted.
Good luck

My early 4.2 used to do this but only in ~30mph traffic. Was ok travelling faster and ok when stationary. Tracked the problem down to the fan's being wired backwars so they were trying to push air out of the front of the car.

ok - the fan connectors are definitely quite corroded so I will clean those up first of all.
Where are the thermostat and temp sensor located as I will also renew both...?

Gonna be farting around with mine today - display was flicking between 110-116 in traffic yesterday yikes
Bit disappointed to be having this problem after a full day on the rolling road at TVR Power - thought it would have been picked up tbh

It's probably the farting that's causing the extra heat
Is it you or is it Balli???

Thermostat is at the front of the engine at the top left the water pipe goes into it, and the temp sensor is below the air box which you will need to remove and towards the back half of the engine kinda above and to the left of the oil filter. It should have a black wire with a yellow label on it saying temp sensor.

How is the Rad looking condition wise? If you need it i have the old one from my Cerb. I only changed it for an alloy one. It was fine when i removed it.

thanks Scott - my rad looks ok looking at it in situ and not losing a drop, so trying to work around it at the mo.
Do you know if the V8 and Sp6 rads are interchangeable?

I replaced the silicon hose from the themostat to the rad with a new blue one and also replaced the water pipe with a stainless steel elbow and new blue hose to rad. I also replaced the silicone hose at the other end of the rad (bottom) with a new blue hose going from Rad to oil/water cooler. I also replaced the thermostat with one that opens at a lower temperature and replaced the temp sender which is below the 5th throttle body and above the coil pack.

I would think so as the chims is the same as the Cerbs so i think sp6/v8 would be the same.

Yeah nice - I'm planning to do that lot while I'm at it - did you get your hoses from ACT?
