I have seen a 2004 Tamora advertised, and the owner states that TVR Power have told him that 'it may be a 4.0, or even a red rose, because TVR would put in whatever engine was available at the time'.
This sounds a bit unusual-are there any external distinguishing features between the different engines?

It's exactly the same block and head - different crank. Maybe the injectors might give a clue ??

Check the engine number on the v5 and what's on the plate in the car. IIRC a 3.6 will read something like P636 and then four further digits, a 4.0 will read P640 and then four further digits.

Someone may be along to correct me soon...

Injectors.

Vin plate on mine suggests 3.6. On initial inspection Jason at Str8six says 4.0 based on inspection of injectors, don't know the differences of said injectors I am afraid. Will be speaking with Jason on Monday so will ask and post answer.

Recently had full strip down and rebuild and definitely a 4.0, despite vin plate number.
