My lazy lambda on cylinders 456 is now a dead lambda (on the diagnostics) and needs replacement. Anybody have a down & dirty guide on how to replace it? In theory I guess it should be an easy remove/replace and plug it back in but if anybody would care to share their experience it might save me throwing a few few fu*cks in whilst I work out how to access the thing (I guess from underneath the car with front engine cover removed)

Yes just did this myself, with swearing at intervals.

Don't think you need a step-by-step as it's fairly obvious once you start but a few heads up may help;

As you prob already know the other lower sensor is a lot easier! Tucked away above it this one's awkward to undo - I used a little spanner, one flat at a time.

Good idea while it's unplugged to spray proper electrical contact cleaner (better than WD40 which dries out) on the old half of the connector and for the other sensor too.

The cable goes through high up and alongside battery, can pull old one through but care needed for new one. Easier to remove battery but being lazy I managed to do it with a pull-through cable tie.

When tightening up nip it, then 1/2 turn like spark plug (similar sealing wahser design) so as not to overtighten.

Enjoy smile

Just assuming here, but I expect it'll be the same as on my Tuscan. 456 is the rear one and is easy to get to, I removed the battery... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Dread to think how hard it would be to get a spanner to turn on the other one though!

Correct, just working up the enthusiasm to change it now. The 4 wire sensors are on offer at the moment from Racing Green. Good link ta, I thought it was the other sensor that looks a right git to access without a ramp.
