Hi Guys,

I have been made very aware of the benefits of a new, modern, ECU and had assumed the Syvecs was the only option. However, at £3,300 its a little pricey to say the least, and I'm not really fussed about having traction control or not.

What interests me is:

Smoother running,
Cold statt function,
Knock sensors,
Sequential firing,
More drivability,
Better MPG
More power and torque.

From reading RG's own blurb (they sell both systems) it seems that the Omex system does the job I want just as well, for just over half the price.
Does anyone have this fitted?
Am I missing something that makes the Syvecs a better proposal afterall?
Will it still be as good if I put the FFF2 head on at a later date?

Many thanks in advance.

I don`t think the omex caters for sequencial or knock like the syvecs does.

there are a few people who have the omex fitted who will be along shortly to tell you exactly what it can or cant do I`m sure, and many have changed from omex to syvecs, so you get what you pay for it seems.

Omex has no real benefits over the standard mbe, only thing it will do is make idle and cold starting better/smoother. Not worth it over the MBE hence why I went for Syvecs. If you are going to upgrade the ecu you should get one with knock sensoring, there are many others out there so shop around if you don't want Syvecs.

Had a good chat with Dom yesterday. The new MBE ECU will be available soon. Worth giving him a shout.

Hi Clive,
I believe from older posts you have the FFF engine? I'd love to have a chat with you about that at some point.
Regarding this thread, according to the OMEX web site features page it does cater for sequential firing and have a knock sensing capability

As far as I remember RG do not set these funchions on the omex system. This may have changed.

I've had the Omex on my engine, and it's NOT capable of managing sequential injection on a 6 cylinder engine. At least not the model that was being used...

Edited to add: I just looked at the Omex website and seems that it is capable now. Think they may have had a software upgrade, as I'm talking about some two years ago...

Wasnt this meant to be priced in the £1100 range?

Syvecs @£3000

Whats the cost of the omex system?

The MBE system will cope with knock detection and cold start etc, may be the best value system?

The OMEX is £1830 inc VAT. Presumably that includes fitting and mapping.

Round Farnham area - I make the trip every month to the Ace for Petrolhead Nirvana, and will be out and about at Chatsworth, Caring With Cars, The Supercar Event and a few others this year.

Come and say hello!

With all the work he's had done, there'll be a bit of a queue around Don and his car at chatsworth me thinks hehe

That's work on his car, not himself I hasten to add, not that he needs any, on himself that is, allegedly

biggrin Queue for the car on the right, to punch me in the face the left!

Slight caveat - I should be picking the car up on the Saturday before Chatsworth. Fingers crossed...

The Ace Cafe on the North Circular I presume?
I live not far, so could pop up. A friend was telling me about it - saying I should take my 9yr old lad up there. (A bigger petrol head even than I!)
When is it?

Second Monday of the month - Petrolhead Nirvana Ace forum

A very friendly bunch, a few kids along during school holidays as well. Normally a very eclectic bunch of cars.
