Built to run for 50 Hours???

So it lasts a little bit longer than the road going engines then...

Can anyone explain to me why this can't be a road going engine?

I.e. why if driven on the road (i.e. 1000's of normal driving) would the engine let go so quickly (and what happens?)

50 hours should be enough for a whole season shouldn't it?

As a comparison (in terms of race engine life).

Ric Wood Essex 3.0 V6 race engine that delivers 260-270 bhp on a single carburettor. 10 hours. 12-13K ish I understand.

50 hours life? Unlikely to be an engine built for sprint races, I supsect that the engine is being built for longer duration events?

I guess that some of the parts are financial over kill and that also some of the parts would be unsuitable to road use.

Generally engines are built very differently for the two purposes as they have to perform in very different ways.

Very crudely you're trading reliability and usability for as much of the type of power you need for the racing you'll be doing. The right top quality parts will allow more of this trade off.

A lot of racing is done for marketing purposes as well so this will have an impact as what is designed and built will also factor in what it is that wants to be sold.

I suspect it also costs a lot more than a conventional road build.

The high lift cams and stronger valve springs will have much higher loads and therefore wear quicker at lower rpms. The bearings and cylinder hone can be designed for less friction but a shorter life

Cheers for the personal attack, I don't know why you needed to post it as it was meant as tongue in cheek comment, but obviously it hit a nerve with you...

Yes I don't currently have a car, Yes I am a technology person so post on PC section, not so much in the gaming one at all.

When the situation changes a saggy is what I want to buy, but can justify leaving it on the street in London without a garage and I can't get one very close to me so hence no car.

I do have a lot of friends with TVRs, but you don't seem to be able to notice the smilie either... well done.

The winking smile isn't really clear as its not in line in the text. I have only just noticed it. Possibly why no one else noticed it.

Not really a personal attack and didn't really hit any nerves. Was more meant in jest. Just thought your post was odd in the way it was presented on a subject your obviously distant from. We'll leave it at that.
