Sorry if already mentioned elsewhere but in the latest Sprint, Lawrence Tomlinson is unimpressed with the development potential of the Speed 6 much over 400bhp.
May be of interest to some of you who are talking about high bhp on here.

If I understood it correctly, he was saying that the things that hold the crankshaft (journals?) were not precisely longitudinally in line with each other and could not be reliably made so. This led to engine failures. He was of course talking about racing engines. I have no fear for my bog standard S6.

I only bring this up out of interest. I'm not criticising anyone who is into developing the S6 - you are doing us all a service.

Not sure that LNT is an engine specialist, but he has raced the cars so should know something.

But, I am not sure I am that fussed about making my engine deliver more than 400bhp.

Ginetta are making some good cars at the moment. I want a road going G50

Racing and road car loads are considerably different so what Lawrence was referring to was the inability of the Speed6 being able to survive sustained high revs and power for long periods in racing conditions & be competitive.

He is a fan of the engine and I think the fact he suggested in the same piece that had he bought TVR he would have continued with the Speed6 and indeed developed it further along with the AJP8 proves that.

[quote=blueg33]Not sure that LNT is an engine specialist,

LNT own Zytek who are one of the gobal race engine design specialist/suppliers but as V8Griff as mentioned there's a big difference tbetween a race car engine and a road car etc.

I know Lawrence through one of his ex employees now at Radical + I live a cross the road from the LNT HQ in Leeds he knows his stuff its just a shame the boy racer of a Russian bought and killed TVR in a blink. LT would have turned the company around for sure.

Actually, I believe that Zytek and LNT parted company last year. Plus you can own things without being a specialist (Do you think Richard Branson is a 747 specialist?). Like any business the boss can know much about a wide range of facets, but he won't be a specialist in each and every aspect of the business.

As has been said LNT has said he would have kept the Speed 6.

Is that the case? I remember an interview published in car recently, where LT confirmed he would have kept the AJP but there was no mention of the Speed Six.

He "would have kept", if he "would have bought".... Kind of hypothetical, isn't it?
