A couple of questions:

What are the torque settings for the sump tank bolt & sump pan bolt? I can't seem to find it in Varley's book. I would it imagine it would be around 25-30ft/lbs?

Also I'm looking to clean up the area around the sump tank as it’s at some point had an oil leak so the idea is to remove & polish the tank as well as clean up the area around it. In Varley’s orange book it says:

"When filling the sump tank after removal, ensure the HP oil suction/feed hose is bled of air at the pump end of the hose"

How would I do this? Is there a bleed valve?? I've not had a look yet I just prepping before I go a head.

Many thanks

FYI

I spoke with one of the engineers at a resonably local TVR dealer and I've been told they'll be no issue with air in the system

Thanks for the update Buzz,

I have to replace one of the oil feed pipes that comes from the engine below the air box to the oil cooler beside rhe nearside front chassis. I was worried about bleeding air but recon I can just remove it and replace it without worrying about airlocks in the system.

Hi Buzz,

it seems I have the same issue with the leaking oil tank - at least there's always some oil running down it's side. How did you find the leak - and where? Jason could not tell at the last service.

Thanks

Usually it's a weep from the union with the return pipe. Drop of oil on the chassis keeps the rust at bay!

Morning Konrad

The leak was spotted by the usual method: oil on the pipes and a dribble from the left hand top hose. I basically replaced the filter, oil ring and gasket which came free with the car when I bought it back in May. I've had all the oil pipes off and tank out basically to give it a good clean and polish the tank, expansion tank etc. The car will be back together in a couple of weeks, I'm currently helping a friend of mine do a 5 stud/Spyder/caliper upgrade on his Chim. I've checked all the hoses and they seem ok. Apparently the hoses used on the system were of Aldi quality (no surprise there) and are prone to leak from the compression fitting on the hose. Once it’s all back together I will run it and see what the out come is. If there’s still an issue I will replace them with steel braided & motorsport connectors.

The sump tank left hand top hose is only connected with 4 dome head bolts and are easily removed with an allen key. Take that off and you will see there’s a gasket, o ring and filter strainer. Remove those carefully, clean the filter in petrol or brake cleaner and reassemble using a new gasket and rubber 'o' if required. It’s all in Varley’s book which is on the web

Be VERY VERY careful when connecting back onto the tank, it is very easy to cross thread them smile
