Has anybody fitted NOS to a Speed Six and what were the results?

Are there any kits available?

What needs to be done to the engine / drivetrain?

I have seen a pic of a SP6 with direct port fitted but dont know much more sorry.

You can fit and run nitrous on almost any engine.
Some engines are more inviting than others but i dont see any particular reason the SP6 couldnt take a 100 shot without any significant modifications.

NOS seems like a cheap way to get performance on the occasions that you really want to be scared without the big investments..

It used to be all the rage in hill climbing and sprints until it was banned..

Why has there been so little take up with the Speed Six..the RV8 crowd seem quite keen on it.....

How does it work with fuel injection / ignition maps?

What are the down sides..does it ruin your engine with heat, melted pistons..or only if you're greedy?

No speed 6 experience, but ive abused it for a few years on RV8's in my Chim.
It all depends on how much power you want to add.

I would say a healthy speed 6 could take a 50 shot with no modifications at all. Maybe just retard the ignition a couple of degrees to be on the safer side.

Thanks for your response.

Have you had any 'engine accidents' and does the fuel mapping need to be changed?

Do you know how much a basic NOS kit is going to cost?

What needs to be customised to make it all fit?

I did have a major accident a couple of years ago due to greed and mis-use but have learned since.
Cost etc is down to how complex you want to go. A very basic beginner set up would be in the region of £700 with an 11lb bottle and a heater (recommended).
Nothing to be customised as such.
Mount the bottle in the boot, run lines, t off fuel supply, mount solenoids in a suitable place, fit injector before throttle, wire up to an arming switch and a full throttle switch.
Carry out some tests to establish ratio for jets then go and test.

How do insurance companys look upon Nitrous Oxide enhanced performance?

I am with Adrian Flux who matched a quote by Haggerty's but had better conditions.
There are others also and more are coming round to the idea of nitrous as an alternative power adder.
Some will only cover for strip use only, ie the system disconeected on the road.
Others will ask for the bhp. Stating you have a UK 'WON' system can help also.

Yes he fitted it for Simon Smith in his Tamora, who was pretty pleased with it before he later sold it for a Tuscan, and said to me that Dom's experience was that it was easy to fit, easy to run and no risk to the Power-rebuilt engine.

So suggest you ask Dom if you're interested smile

If you go for a small, single-point system you'll get away with under a grand fitted for Wizards of Nos. About double if you have to go direct port. The choice of controller can push prices up.
