Sorting out a few jobs this winter and upon removing the lower part of the airbox found a golf ball size hole on the rear of the box!
So do I try and repair with tape over the hole or do I go for a fibre glass patch as I don't fancy paying £100's for a new lower box.
Advice please.

The hole is for clearance of the alternator.

Thanks for the reply but it doesnt look like it nor a factory produce hole.'it looks smashed with jagged edges. Its in the end side wall of the casing not the bottom. Is the wall end that runs parallel to the bulk head. Am I wrong that it should not be there or has this been a DIY mod?

Sounds like it should',t be there. I would get it fixed as it might be drawing unfiltered air into the inlet/throttle bodies. You could always get a second hand top or bottom part for the air box depending on what part is broken. Put a post on here asking if anyone has one then try phoning a few suppliers like power/racing green etc even some of the garages that don't sell parts you never know what they have stuck up on a shelf. The breakers yards will charge you a fortune for one. Good luck.

Thanks George. Have scouted around but people want silly money for even the 2nd hand. Could I get away with Duct tape for a while?

Yes duct tape will be fine, certainly better than having an open hole in the air box, but a short term solution but it will give you time to secure a replacement or get it fixed if that is possible. Some people have changed to the carbon fibre air box from ACT(££££), I wonder what they did with there old one's.

Yes I have my eye on the ACT ones but it's 12k service this year and I can't see Santa being that generous this year!

i think the hole is in the lower part of the box, so the air filter will prevent this.
i would repair this with some epoxy and that's it.

I assume the air box is made from GRP. If so send to SC Power and we will repair it for you somewhere between £50-100 dependent on damage + £8.50 return postage + vat. This will be the most cost effective permanent repair. Call to discuss if necessary.
