Has anyone used one of these cooling system purge and refill kits? Have seen this one http://www.toolbox.co.uk/draper-09544-expert-7547-...

Im replacing all of my rad hoses and am nervous about leaving the car sat idling from cold to vent it.

On all of my other cars it would be a case of waiting for the fans to kick in and waiting for the coolant to rise up in the expansion tank before putting the lid on... but that potentially isnt the way to go with these...

Never used one. Just been careful when refilling with front end raised to get all the air out before starting. I'd like a coal chimney, like Druid has for his Sag..... laugh

Did the chimney act like an expansion tank?

Yep, thats the point. The standard thermostat opens at 82° so the extra capacity allowed me to run the engine that bit longer with the thermostat open. Of course jacked up at the front and 2ltrs of additional head also helps.

The comedy is a nice extra! smile

How long did you run the car for taking into account standard wisdom regarding start and drive. I was thinking of the refill tool to avoid the stationary warm up period.

Stationary warming up once in a blue moon knocks the spots of overheating a long way from home!

Mike, a local fab company knocked it up for me. Not much to it really.

I could sketch it up or ask them to knock some more up if there was interest. No idea of cost.

Ive gone down the road of a purge tool which will hook up to my compressor to evacuate all the air then replace with coolant. For 60 odd quid it reduced my level of paranoyia with regard to idling the car stationary.
