How firmly should the breather be fixed at the airbox end? On my car it just pushes in loosely.

Then I need to install a catch tank, which is a future plan

Please explain to two numptys. And I don't even know what a catch tank is! Lol. I don't understand why its better for excess oil to go into the airbox than it is to go info some kind of overflow reservoir.(I'm guessing at what a catch tank is).

Educate some numpties,It'll make you feel good.

I am a numpty but here is my understanding (could be totally wrong)

The breather to the airbox means that excess oil gets burnt off in the engine (can produce a smokey exhaust if overfilled and on hard driving. Plus over filled oil can clog the air filter)

Taking it to a catch tank means that excess oil is caught in a tank rather than burnt off, plus you cannot clog the air filter with oil

Demon tweaks sell them - downside is that you'll have to remember to empty it from time to time smile

Can T450T explain why we should remove the breather from Tank to air box ? i am intrigued as to what effect this would have and as to wether there is anything further that needs to be done, like say fitting a catch tank, to prevent any oil atomising within the engine bay. confused

As per another previous post... below is my understanding but I'm not an expert by any means.

Oil breather pipe is done for emissions purposes really, it vents any unburnt oil and fumes back into the airbox so it is burnt by the engine instead of spilling in to the environment. Downside of this is that over time it can clog the filter and could potentially cause misifires etc - worse if you overfill is my understanding.

If you unplug the breather pipe, you will need to plug the hole left in the airbox. If you just left the pipe hanging I would assume it is just going to blow crap everywhere all over your engine etc.

So, options are you either disconnect the pipe altogether and fit a small K&N type filter to where the pipe used to come out of the oil reservoir or you keep the pipe in place but fit the catch can in the middle between oil reservoir and the airbox.

or you just leave it as it is! smile
