Ok sorry 12k service is not going well, did the valve clearances and the good news is most are about 1-2 thou closed down, but and it is a big but.....

Exhaust cam lobe number 11 only has 1.5thou of clearance, which I am taking means the valve has stretched frown or a numpty put the wrong shim in. What is the range of shimming people normally see? Why just one valve? (Two people checked it)

So do I :-

i) just patch it up, reshim and wait for the valve to break
ii) Do the head in situ as php
iii) Remove the engine and put on the spare head I have.
iv) Trailer it to TVR power and empty the piggy bank, credit card, kids savings and get a 2nd job.

And it is my daily driver at the moment, it runs well as well.

cant answer your question directly but would recommend you call Jason at Str8 Six or Dom at TVR power, they will give you an honest answer based on vast experience...

If you 'patch it up' how long do you think it will last before a trip to Power/Str8t Six is required? A chance to save up a few pennies?

As above, it might be worth having a chat with Dom before deciding which route to go down.

Dreading my 12k even more now. Mines on 45k but running fine & not using any oil.

I'm assuming that you are talking about the original engine here. What mileage has it done?
Mine (a 4L S) is with Power now being rebuilt - it had done 42k miles from new and the only components not being replaced are the crankshaft, engine block and cylinder head. It turned out to be a real dog on inspection - a lot of Indian components in it. Greek style austerity measures here to pay for it. I really did hope it only needed work on valves & guides! Silly me.
No doubt at all that Power can sort it for you - best of luck with it.

Dog or not it still did 42k miles.

True.
The upside to issues like this is that I will have a bran spanking new engine that nobody else has abused. And I know it will be properly looked after in futue + it has a 3 yr warranty.
The OP will be in the same situation of course.

Can't you combine those and put on the spare head in-situ?

To be honest it would be the new head but I have found some evidence of pickup in the cam bearings, but the new head has the right guides, valves, and cams in.

I knew it would have to be done at some stage, and I had prepared myself anyway big shout out to TVR Power and Dom for some counselling and some advice.

So it isn't as bad as first thought, and the old girl will live on for a bit longer, hurrah!

Right back to the workshop!

I had one exhaust valve close up to the point of causing a missfire. It was re-shimmed to spec and hasn´t moved in the 6k miles or so since.

Ouch Neill, sorry to hear that. Hopefully its not going to be the ££££££££'s option
