As above really....can anyine help? anyone got it working?? im a bit stuck? I keep getting an error message trying to run it! Something to do with an x86 (32 bit) or an x64 (64 bit) version being required??

I have just had this problem but luckily i had an old laptop running windows vista which worked. Someone suggested to me that i might be able to run it on windows 7 in a compatibility mode. I'll have a play around and see but hopefully someone else will be along with a bit more knowledge.

To run it on windows 7 you need Win 7 Pro and above. These versions includes an x86 virtual PC which is basically an old school computer emulator mode. It works just fine via a serial-USB adaptor.

Win7 doesnt support old 16 bit apps
Win7 pro can by running in compatability mode
Win7 home cant

Options
Install win7 pro
Install xp
Install oracle free virtual machine and in there install xp (works in w7 home)

Thanks Pete - had worked out i didnt have pro, dont want to install XP so last option is probably the only realy one.

I have also seen that VMWare player will do the same as the oracle version

The Diagnostic Software runs on Windows 7 32-bit without a virtual machine.....In my case with the Pro Version, but this isn't important.
Don't know about the 64-bit version, but why should you have this version on a notebook ?

Well, this has turned out to be more of a pain in the arse than i expected...

Had to purchase a brand new win 2000 pro operating system disc and licence to be able to run the virtual machine...i didnt have any old copies!! sods law as im sure i threw one away recently frown

Have downloaded the VMWare Player to use win 2000 alongside Win 7...waiting for that to arrive now to try it.

Oh and bought one of the cheap serial / usb converters from eBay only to read on here that that is risky and could damage to ECU! eek. So off to maplins, bought their £20 one and installed it then got the port setting sorted out.

This Virtual Machine method better work or i think im gonna cry!

AAAARRGH, THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING IN THE WORLD EVER!!

Managed to get the software working, but the virtual machine window, guest OS screen size is too small, and i cant see the whole of the diagnostic screens, nor navigate to the parts of the screen i cant see!!

Anyone any suggestions? have tried increasing resolution, have tried increasing screen size to no avail!!

Well, some progress! I abandoned VMware player and downloaded the oracle Virtualbox and this has a scaleable version. Still got to try the connection on the car, little one keeping me busy!

Thanks Graham, i have the latest version - didnt realise there was a screen size fix?

well, im going backwards fast.

If anyone has done this susccessfully would appreciate some help.

The TVR diagnostics screen, although i can now see more of it, i still cant see all of the window on the guest OS sceen, despite scaling, stretching etc! so utterly frustrating...it must be a resolution / screen size type issue im sure...interesting Graham says something about a fix?

Tried to get screen shots but just now i couldnt even get the bloody software to connect to the car....FFS...

God, if only I'd seen this thread sooner - I threw one out today. You could have had it for free.

No Prob JonRB...one of those things sods law and i have had a lot of it with this problem.

However, i think i am FINALLY sorted! After literally hours of messing, i think i am there. Had to download and configure all sorts, USB 2 support, winzip, Internet explorer 6, Win 2000 service pack 4, and then finally an extension pack and 'guest additions' .iso file for Virtualbox, all to finally see my guest screen resize itself and adopt the same resolution as the host screen. the relief!!

i opened up the sp6 software and it looks like it will be OK now...will rey on the car tomorrow!!!

Well, just thought i would say that after about 2 weeks of messing around the software is working, tried it on the car last night.

Considering i was going to buy a second laptop on Sunday its quite some progress. Took an inordinate amount of time to sort though frown

Of course, the objective was to discover whether or not i had a water temp fault, but i reset the fault screens earlier in the week whilst i couldnt see the whole screen and now i dont know if i had a fault hehe - bit shortsighted that one but i wanted to drive the car...and i couldnt really tell whether it made a difference...at least i can keep my eye on it now!

Took me some time as well, I have tried Linux, mac and resorted to going in the attic and getting an old laptop out. 3 serial connectors later, and its been fine since.
