Just been to look at a car with a 3.6 engine. |It's covered 37000 miles and the guy said a couple of tappets are slightly noisy. He said in Jan he spent £1200 on having work done on the top end - 8 new finger followers at £400 + £800 in labour. (has no receipt as the guy that did it builds rally engines and did it for cash)
To me the whole top end sounds noisy, like most of the clearances are way out (I have owned a 4.0 in the past, so \I know what they sound like). The car is priced on the low side, but I want to know what I might be in for? My guess is best case scenario - valve adjustment, but is there something in between that and a total rebuild?

If in doubt I'd walk away, The good taste of a bargain doesn't last long when the big bills start coming. There are plenty for sale are you sure it's worth the risk!!
And personally If I was getting head work done I would want some paperwork because without it there IS NO proof anywork has been done and if it had the top end should not be noisey.

Good chance that it's clearances after top-end work, but *** Get it inspected *** at somewehere like Str8six who will have a look at the head for you... or, as above, move on !
Plus, what warranty will the engine builder give you? Call him!
