Hi,
If one has a full uk licence and is a britsh national but also has a residence in Ireland and a Irish pasport.
Can you get a Irish driving licence to have in addition to your UK one or are you not allowed both?
Thanks
Will
Why would you want two licences If one has a full uk licence and is a britsh national but also has a residence in Ireland and a Irish pasport.
Can you get a Irish driving licence to have in addition to your UK one or are you not allowed both?
Thanks
Will
To get a Irish licence you have to hand in your British licence so you only hold 1, but say you had lost a British licence and recieved a replacement and handed this one in to get your Irish but then found your old british licence

You would need to either sit another driving test in the republic to hold the 2nd licence, or you could surrender your UK licence and take an Irish licence.
No you don't. The UK licence qualifies you to drive in Ireland, but if you move residence to Ireland you're supposed to exchange the UK licence for an Irish one.Of course you might have previously got a duplicate UK one...
A.
I've moved over the border 7 months ago to Donegal and still drive a northern car on a northern licence, if i was to surrender it i would get a southern licence no problem but if i wanted to have a 2nd licence i would need to sit a test in the south so i can hold the two licences simultaneously. Years ago you could have applied for a duplicate licence and surrendered one but the system has advanced and you can no longer do this, both sides of the border.
