A Scotsman in Ireland, tourist advice please!

As the title suggests, I'll be visiting your fine country for a week, staying 3 days in Portrush, 4 in Donegal, looking for ideas of a good route to drive from Larne to Portrush (coastal route I assume?) and a nice place to stop off for lunch on the way, either a village/town or any restaurants/pubs in particular.

Any advice on 'must sees' or 'must dos' whilst in the areas would be welcomed.

P.S. I've been on the usual tourist websites, but from knowledge of my own country there's always routes, nice villages or gems of places to eat/drink that only you locals would know about or recommend, happy to go off beaten track to hunt them down!
