Hi all,

I'm on the look out for an early S1 Lotus Elise here in Ireland. I'm after a really tidy cherished car that doesn't look like it has just come off a WRC event! I know I will probably need to track one down in the UK but I thought I'd try closer to home first.

Anybody know of any?

Thanks!

Simon

Hi Simon how early?

A guy on octane.ie has a 99 for sale at the moment.

Hi, yes 99 would be just about OK if its up the North (gotta keep an eye on VRT!) I looked earlier on Octane at the ads and didn't see one there, can you point me in the right direction?

Just surfing the net, is the 99 Cork car the one from Octane?

Hi Simon,

That is the one, I emailed the owner on Octane for an update but no joy so far.

I was just on the phone to him, he's in Italy at the moment so maybe ain't picking up any emails!

Car sounds nice although there is one weird thing about it - no NCT and in the 6 months that he has owned it it hasn't had an NCT. I've lived abroad the last few years, is this normal or should I walk away?

Simon that would be normal enough. Nct is needed but most cops will ignore it. Some people simply don't want to bring their pride and joy to the est centers and i can understand that because most test centers won't have had a lotus before. But i wouldn't walk away just because of no nct smile

Car wasn't immaculate as advertised (but was much better than the first one that I looked at last week in Tullow). Passenger door had been replaced and sprayed badly, Bodywork surrounding the striker pin on the B-pillar was damaged etc etc, not much in the way of bills/invoices other than the sevice book. The search goes on!

Seriously, wait for Nov/Dec and buy a car off PH with more a service history of telephone book proportions.

Try posting on octane.ie too.

That's a shame but as irish says you will pick up a much much better car from the classifieds here then anything you will get in ireland and probably make a saving in the end smile

What about this one.

It is not far from me, so if your stuck I can go and have a preliminary look.

It is very overpriced. I sold a 1997 but with better spec than this 3 months ago for £8400 same colour and also new tyres.

Thanks for the very generous offer but I really don't like blue and it does look pretty overpriced. (Sorry if I sound like an ungrateful git!) Any of the other Elise colours especially the bright ones are most welcome.

My 911 was blue and after a few months I really wished I'd waited for one in a colour that I liked.

Your right to wait if you don't like the color. Nothing worse then making a decision your annoyed at afterwards wink

No Problem at all. As Funky says it is best to wait for a good one.

I test drove that 00 one in Linders. Needed a bit of tidying, but seemed straight enough. And it must be nice to buy one with a warranty. I'm still looking for an early s2.

Good luck.

There is another S1 1998 for sale, blue unfortunately for Simon, for £8000 in the North. From a dealer as well so should have some sort of warranty.

You really might be better widening your net to look at England. Much better choice of cars. I'd start with Bell and Coville. In fact I did start (and finish) with Bell and Colville.

I would second bell and colville. I brought the elise to be serviced with them and they did an outstanding job biggrin
