I'm considering buying a '01, 2.5 diesel Range Rover. Have been told that the engine is of no use because of the weight of the body etc. Also been informed the breakdowns and faults are very very common....Any comments would be appreciated? All the bad news has turned me off them. Thanks.

The late facelifted cars are much better for reliability, but the engine still works hard with the weight of the Range Rover.

I've driven a friend's and while the 2.5D has enough torque for the mud-plugging, it's verrrryyyy slow- overtaking will become a thing of the past.

I've heard a couple of stories about the gearbox giving up the ghost also, so if I was buying one I'd feel happier with some sort of warranty...
