Rule of thumb - multiply the STG£ figure by two to get the on-the-road € figure.

You won't be too far off the mark doing that.

Mine was an S1 and I got it off a private seller in Kilkenny who'd brought it in from the UK.

It was a '97.

I got it in '00 or '01 and it had under 20,000 miles on it and was in great condition.

I sold it about 18 months ago.

It's the one car I got rid of that I missed and wished I'd held it.

There's some reasonably-low milage S1's on sale in the classifieds here for ok money.

You can expect to have front wheel bearing problems with it and, possibly, a head gasket will need replacing.

Other than that they don't really give too much grief.

The word "Lotus" is not Latin, so the plural would be Lotuses.

Thats just what i was asking in the thread title! Cheers!

Will be a little while off before I get one Ireland, the way things have worked to date for me is....realise i want a car, buy the car a year later, so going by that I'll have to get the finger out and start saving more! Another problem i'll have is insurance since i'm still a "boy racer" mad Will have to get another car on the road with this if i cant get insured straight out on it! Other than that I may have to look a getting part-time trade insurance or something!

My mate has just changed his '06 Elise 111s for an '07 model. Loves it, drives it quite a bit, but still enjoys his '96 boggo Punto 3dr that he bought for the boring shopping runs etc., saves the elise from the humdrum runs that usually cause damage/wear and tear. It's ALWAYS annoying when he calls out in that bloody punto mad!

As already mention usually its the english price doubled. In fact always until you start going above say 50,000, then it gets more then doubled I couldn't believe the figures for the amount of Lotus' in Ireland myself. I can't remember where the irish figures were posted but in 05 alone 40 (something, 3 i think ) were registered in Ireland. I really thought there was nowhere near that, but i'd say they sold very well last year too. So i'm sure you will see quite a few come up for sale in ireland aswell. But probably always cheaper to buy fromt he uk and you'll get way more choice, best of luck

Apologies for the Latin lesson .

I was taught Latin in a Dublin De la Salle secondary school, Latin obviously doesn't feature highly in the Irish education system anymore.

As a Caterham owner, I would be interested in knowing how many Caterham or Lotus 7s exist in the Republic.

Well as soon as possible I will have a seven in Ireland.......

A good few "seven" type kit cars..........I have not seen very many actual sevens.....

Although the yellow car is sporting an official Caterham 7 grille, it isn't a bona-fide Caterham - or at least, it is a very non-standard one. Not that I am "snobbish" about other Sevenesque type cars. Some of them are very, very good and can beat the pants of real Sevens on track.

The blue car is an MK - one of the many UK built "Seven Inspired" vehicles.

I know there are quite a few Sylva Strykers in Ireland as they put on a very good race at The Phoenix Park when I was last there in 1999.

I considered bringing my S1 home a while ago, it's a 2001 and the good peeps at the VRT quoted between €6 - €7k if I were to sell it on.

Would this tax still apply if you sold it in the north?

I'm not sure. If the VRT crowd know you have effectively sold on the car, they might want their cut of the sale as you have sold it on within the specified time period (I'm sure you have to hold onto the car for more than a year to avouid paying VRT).

I'm pretty certain you could sell it up North with no Vrt implications , there'd be no change of reg or anything..
There would , of course , be a huge difference in price though ..

No VRT for Northern Ireland. Most people bringing in a car from "the mainland" will re-register the car but it's not necessary. Just avoids people assuming you're the kind of person who says "the mainland"

Oh - I enquired about VRTing a Westfield (early '90s STG up to STG5k price region) and was told it would be about two grand for a 1.4-1.9 litre one. Not quite what you were asking about FM but maybe of interest.
