TomTom map upgrade

Do any of you know if the v6.6 map for Republic of Ireland offered on the TomTom site is the up to date one with 100% coverage?

I want to download the new ones but I'm not sure if this is it or not.

Have any of you got it yet?

Let me know the answer to this please JJ, so far I've only had success here with sat nav units that use Navtech maps, as their Irish mapping is up to date.

I've got a Garmin Nuvi 310D and a 660 and they're both excellent.

Tom Tom use (or did when I had a 700) Teleatlas maps which were basic for Ireland, so say the least.

I'm sending an e-mail to TomTom support but they take at least a week to reply (well they did last time when I had a problem and contacted them).

I'll post their reply on here when I get it.

BTW, Andy, did you get the lights sorted?

Not exactly, I was away so havn't had time to look at it. I think there's a transistor gone and I have a replacement so I'm gonna try that asap!

Thank you for your question regarding TomTom Maps of Ireland. TomTom is always investigating the possibility of adding new countries. TomTom will do so when the digital map data is of a satisfactory quality. At this moment there is very little road data. TomTom only wants to supply its customers with the highest quality possible. We will release the product for Ireland when Tele Atlas has enough coverage, e.g. 96%. Currently we have some map data of Ireland. This is including some areas of Cork, Dublin, and Galway along with the major roads data.

When we decide to include the Republic of Ireland we will announce this on the web site. May we ask you to please keep an eye on our website in the months to come?

It's really annoying these are not up to date. Why on earth are we one of, if not the last european country to be mapped? I got really annoyed the other day when i emailed a few places to ask how much a backup sat nav disc was, just in case anything were to happen to our disc's. I.e me losing them, which i always do The cheapest i was quoted was £200 STERLING. I was like no ing way. So i emailed them all back and said thanks but no thanks i'll download it for free

I would love to get a sat nav, just don't know where things stand with the mapping.

The ones with 100% mapping use these maps

(I just put in portlaoise as it is pretty central and I know it, try any one you know yourselves).

I looked up my area and it has all the back-roads into the countryside on it.

I spoke to someone yesterday who just got one and he told me it's even got the townslands listed on it.


And TomTom don't have it.

This lot appear to offer unbiased advice. They say Navman and TomTom just aren't suitable for use in Ireland but there are alternatives. Haven't compared their prices with anywhere else though. No affiliation, etc.

The new Garmin units and others which use Navteq maps are very detailled for Ireland.

I live in the middle of nowhere and my road is on it.

Avoid any unit that uses TeleAtlas mapping, they just don't seem to be bothered about Ireland, whereas Navteq actually drove around and mapped it themselves.
