Super unleaded

Right , here's the gen ...
I managed to get talking with Shell Ireland's products manager.
There's no super (97ron) available anywhere in Ireland anymore , it's been 'taxed out of existance' quote unquote. The last petrol supplier (Maxol) stopped supply during the Summer.
Shell continue to lobby the Government to reduce the excise duties on anything higher than 95.6.
He also believes that none of the octane boosters give more than about .3/.5 of an octane increase and will do damage longterm. It's his opinion though that if your car is newer than '95 it'll run fine on 95ron long term with no side effects.
It's a big bag o' shoite really!!

The Shell Product Manager is absolutely right that the Government imposed extra excise duties on fuels with an octane rating over 95, and that all the fuel companies promptly stopped bringing it in.
I don't understand, though, why they don't stock it in a few selected garages around the country. They could just pass the additional excise duty onto the customer (God knows they're happy enough to do it on all the other fuels). There's got to be enough petrolheads around to make it worth their while...
Sure, cars run fine on the 95 ron but the good stuff does make an appreciable difference...

I asked him that .. He said they tried to do that but the fuel stayed in the tank..
Nobody was buying, unbelievable though is seems , especially with all the boy pilots with their tincan exhausts..
He also said that in order to maintain 97 at a few stations , it means having a depot tank with 97 for supply purposes, and that was constantly full and unused also ...
It's an awful bloody pity.
I can't see the Dailers changing their policies though ...

There's nathin above 95.6 (the point at which the Dailers tax the bejezes out of the fuel) to be had anywhere in the 26 counties.
