Since there will be a thread of TVR's heading through Dublin 9th/10th March for the Celtic Gathering in Killarney - are there any tunnels in Dublin worth rumbling through?

Tunnels? In Dublin?

Sssshh....there's only one but it won't be open for a year yet (ish). It can't be mentioned round these parts due to the budget busting cost, the over-runs, all the leaks and the fact that it wasn't made big enough to fit some of the trucks that it was supposed to be removing from the streets above!

Otherwise, we don't have any .

I think you will fine that Cork has the Jack Lynch Tunnel.......they would get very offended if it wasn't mentioned!!!

And, while the Jack Lynch tunnel couldn't (sensibly!) be said to be on the road from Dublin to Killarney, it does make the emasculated standard exhausts on a 996 sound half-way decent, so I can only begin to imagine what an angry bunch of Trevors would sound like inside....

Bear in mind, though, I've seen a happy-looking, radar-wielding motorcycle policeman waiting on the meridian just outside the south exit of the tunnel on quite a few occasions. Speed limit in and either side of the tunnel is 50mph (or the kph equivalent) and I would suspect that anyone who brought themselves down under that limit immediately after the left-hand bend going up towards the exit would be O.K.

Purely speculation on my part, you understand...

Could be worth a visit - a sudden drop into second and hard push on the throttle could be just about right - 40 odd mph in the 'Gris in that gear produces a pretty feral howl - and the noise off tunnel walls would be worth having a recording of to ensure the kids go to bed on time!!!

I'm going to have to see if I can contrive an excuse to get to Killarney while you lot are down there. Your Sagaris looks INCREDIBLE and I'd love to have a look at one up close.

Don't worry, I'll park the Porker discreetly around the corner to avoid provoking any gentle inter-marque banter!!

Yup, a Cerb S6 (with sports exhausts) in the Jack Lynch sounds fab esp. on the over run, you should have seen the look on the lorry driver's face!

Well done Jerry & Jackie for an ab fab do in Killarney (2006 TVRCC Celtic gathering), and well done Peninsula for getting my car so well set for the 800 mile trip from Taunton to Kerry and back over 90 hours around the week-end

Cheers also to my brother & sister in law in Ballincollig who looked after the nipper on Saturday & Sunday.

Fishguard to Taunton 2 hours 30 mins anyone?

The cars going through the tunnel outside Cork sounded amazing (I was the quite one in the middle!). This was our first visit to Ireland but we'll definitely be coming back again. Big thanks to Jerry and all the folk in the South who organised the weekend and hospitality. Hope you can all make it across to Scotland next year. Adrian, I have loads of photos of the cars but don't have a clue how to copy them into this post. Sorry.

It was a brilliant weekend, and a great run down and back up: we left on the slowboat - not the HSS - on Monday.
Delighted with every aspect of the Gathering - a real feel good factor from all of it - full marks to Jerry and Jackie, what wonderful people!
(Had a strongly worded letter of complaint from the Killarney Council - they had to pay overtime for recovery of pieces of orange fibreglass on the road up to the Gap - and a fortune in postage to get it back to me. Now have the kids usefully employed on piecing together the jigsaw which comprises what used to be the underside of the Sagaris!!!!!!)

If they send you any silvery green bits can you send them back to me?

PS Alan alacol25, as I tried to tell you when you left the carpark in Killarney your off-side brake light isn't working.

Hi David

Thanks for that. It seems to blow bulbs on the offside brake light every other month!. I've stuck a new bulb in but i'll get Hexham to look at it first time i'm down
