know a good tyre setter upper!?

hi all , throwing some contisports on the front of my 911 tomorrow, but need to find someplace that will do a PROPER job tracking and balancing .. My current tyres are wearing on the insides. Anyone know the man for the job in the Dublin area?

Make sure the tyres have the correct N rating for Porsche. Starting the hunt for
a 911. Going for a 00/01 pre-facelift C2. You must get a pic of your car on here at some start.

Sounds like you need less native camber, or a fraction more toe-in.

I've never had a problem with any of the cars I've had, bringing them to any local tyre fitter. Granted there is a difference in car performance, but regularly maxing each car has never highlighted any vibration or poor balance before.

Finally figured out how to get the pic on sight! .. posted a thread on N ratings at the porsche site .. any ideas , anyone??

theyve a good set up there, seem to know what theyre at and put tyres on decent cars all the time

No, no sinister motives, just wondering!

My own rear tires look like they're coming to the end of their natural life (although the out quarter, which is all you see unless you get right in for a good look, look deceptively fresh) and I was just wondering is there a clever place to buy tires at a decent price and have them fitted by someone who knows his arse from his elbow.

Yeah Mark , I know what you mean . it's all too easy to get ridiculous quotes once you mention your car type.I've done a fair bit of research on tyres .. there's a few places that give good quotes but won't do set ups , there's other places who have questionable types pullin and draggin at your alloys .. Mc Canns have quoted the best prices , he's reputed to have spent 60k on a laser allignment system and I'm hearing good things from 1 or 2 mates who have used him .. I'll give you a full report at the end of next week when I get my front boots on ..

I had to have a new alternator put into it just before Christmas. That was being covered by the warranty from the garage I bought it from, so I had it done in Belgard. While it was in there, I had it serviced by them as well. I've no complaints about the job they did.

That said, given the age of the car, I think it's a bit of a mugs game to keep getting it looked after at an OPC so I'm going to be looking for a decent independent specialist from now on.

Someone at work has been using Gordon Kellett (Sandymount/Ringsend) area for a few years and recommends him very highly. He says GK is probably as expensive as Belgard but intelligent and knows his Porsches.

I also know that there's somebody down in the Kildare area who's used and recommended by some members of the Porsche Club. I was given his name and promptly lost it but I'll let you know when I get it again.

Have you any thoughts yourself on who to go to?

Brady .. got the prices from DaveMacann .. seemed as 'reasonable' as they get around here.. any suggestions?

Mark .. was askin cause I've booked my car into O.P.C. boucher rd (Belfast).It's my first service and I'm toyin with the idea of an opc warranty.. even tho I already have an indy one. It's also the 48k check so that's also pushin me up north .. We must compare prices when I'm thru.
By the way , the guy's name is Langridge .. May be heading to him next year.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on in Belfast, Ballcock, and how it compares price-wise. I've just located my receipt from Belgard and it looks like the full service at 62K miles cost around €995.

To be honest, that is not a bad price all in at that milage (given the lack of competition).

It's worth a look to see if thats a 12k or 24k service .. the 24k one up north is quoted at £800 , the 12k £400 . that is assuming a normal service with no surprises .. here's hopin!!

There are always things that need doing! I had my 48K earlier in the year at a specialist. £570 all in. My advice is to get the opc to do the bear minimum and leave any issues flagged to a specialist
