Hi guys - am just wondering how the NCT system for checking for cancellations on line actually works.

I can see no way on the NCT website of checking cancellations - unfortunately - the NCT has a bit of a backlog on at the moment.

Is it actually still possible to check NCT cancellations on line each morning and to take a slot thats available that day - or have they eliminated that possibility.

I am on a priority list - which according to the lady on the phone means an appointment within 4 weeks - but as a back up plan - i would like to keep an eye for cancellations (i am aware it only shows cancellations for that actual day).

Thanks guys

Sir Fergie

Short of going online looking for a new slot, I don't think its possible. The slots on the website don't seem to be update as often as they get the information back on cancellations.

Thank you vdubbin - will try and have a play on their website but couldn't see how to check their cancellations.

I've always suspected that they keep a certain number of slots off-line so that the staff at the call centre have something to allocate. So if I was looking for a short notice appointment I would go on the 'phone.

If its any consolation, my NCT date isn't until the 10th of June. I applied mid April to get that date…The booking reference now takes pride of place on my windscreen…

Vdubbin - were you put on a priority list - I got put on one - the lady on the phone when I tried to make the booking was most adamant that there was nothing available on her system at all - and I had asked her for a date in 2 NCT centres.

Asked her far forward her system goes - and she replies (grumpily) 3 months.

Asked her then for Cork or Limerick (both a longer drive but very workable if it could be done a lot quicker) - which clearly annoyed her - so in order to get rid of me (I assume) she mentioned this priority list which somehow she claimed would mean they could give a date within 4 weeks.

Can only nominate one NCT centre for the priority list though - but would assume that (this is the NCT though) that you could still take an earlier slot elsewhere - as your then doing the NCT a favour if its a cancelled slot that someone else didn't take up.

Says a lot for the NCT that their system was showing in 4 different NCT centres - no vacancies at all for 3 months.

Might be worth ringing again to see how you get on

I have a car to be tested in Athlone on Friday May 10th. I booked it online on 12th March, so it seems the wait is about two months around here.

Well - the car has passed - we know have a nice new disc for the windscreen to look pretty for 12 months smile.

Considering that the car was only valued at 1000 euros in 2009 - we will just settle in for another year of low depreciation motoring biggrin.

Thanks guys
