Hi,

unfortunately I was in a bad bang in the Alfa, a woman slammed into the back of me, so they are declaring it a write-off and will pay up cash.

Time to go shopping. It's a tricky one... I'm looking at Ireland and the UK markets and prices seem to have slowly begun to rise (or am I imagining things?)

The credential for my next car are:

250+ hp
Number of seats irrelavant (one is enough!)
Engine size 2L+
6 cyclider engine preferred
Potentially convertible
Sub 7 seconds to 60
"interesting and fun" (blah)
Budget circa 9k all in on the road
Sub 80k miles

ha! reading that back sounds like a load of ste, but it's a tricky one. I was thinking of a Z3 / Z4 perhaps, or even a 6 series, but not sure a good one in that price range.

Any suggestions, I'll be carless from Thursday onwards so time to shop! I'll look at anything.

Rob

I see I've been beaten to it with the suggestion of a 350Z.

An M3 might be another option for you, they are now getting into your price range.

Oh and going off topic for a while V6 Alfa, I rang the guy I know who had the Frog-Eye and he doesn't have it any longer.

interesting ideas there guys!

Ireland, Thanks for the heads up on the Frog Eye... would have been a real treat for a friend of mine and I appreciate it.

The 350Z... hmmmm I've never driven one, perhaps a test drive is in order.

I have also been looking at an SLK 32 AMG. 350hp, sub 5 seconds 0-60, folding hard top, nice is black...

Is it just me or have prices gone up slightly for second hand motors?

Really need to get on the road in something potent again...

yes possibly, no details on NCT and the tax seems to have expired in Feb 2012. Screams like it was crashed and repaired. I will give a call anyway to check.

This could be a little animal Z3M: http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/Z3/M-ROADST/32013... would need to haggle price...

Seen that before , depends what you want , fuel wise , it's a nice looking car but they give trouble with electrics inside and check suspension tax would also be quite high . I'd drive it , a we bit of exhaust work she'd should well to smile
Wouldnt be as much fun as z3m !

The range of cars you could have is not as big as say 24mth ago but your still looking at 350Z, Boxter S, M3/M5 types. How about a Brera 4X4 or R32 ? Cayenne could be nice but you did say you dont need seats in the back. All the above are good cars (Cayenne 4.5 is ok) but test driving is the only way to find out for yourself.

Don't forget the jap turbo options WRX, Evo, skyline, etc.

If you want help in looking at a 350Z give me a shout. Know most of the bits needed on them wink

You could test drive mine but wouldn't really be comparable to a "normal" 350Z :P
