Hi all

I've upgraded my Europa S, with new discs/pads, fitted a full Miltek and spent the last couple of months and fixing the issues with MIL light codes (thanks greatly to Julian, another member on here for the help!). Also had a few problems with leaking coolant, now sorted (finally).

So next steps - an upgraded ECU. I see you can buy an SE ECU direct from Lotus. Has anyone done this or is the Thorney's/Bell & Colville/Hoffmans options better?

Second question - has anyone put a linkage into the gear box to shorten the gear throw between changes? I've talked to Elise parts but they don't do one. Any ideas?

After this it'll be Nitrons

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve

I think one of the best value changes is a decent setup on the car i.e. more front camber. Thorney or Hofmanns should be able to do this for not much money.

If you want to spend big the Nitrons are good as the car is a lot more direct and looks a lot more agressive. Also getting a set of TDs with 16" fronts works well. If you check out the VX forum they come up second hand quite often.

I see you make a comment about the ECU codes. I keeep on getting a fault thrown as a result of fitting the Miltek, did you work out a way of curing this.

BTW I am not sure Thorney will do the ECU upgrade any more as they had problems writing to the box.

cheers

Hi Steve, good to hear it's sorted now! There is a short throw shift mechanism available for the M32 gearbox but its quite expensive at £200 ish. Have a look at LMF Vauxhall website. Have to say the camber mod sounds very interesting as the early onset of understeer is annoying. If you are only on the 200ps map/ecu superchips do the 225 software upgrade, from there on I think maybe it's intercooler upgrade first! Julian.

Randy told me off an easy trick to shorten the throw of the gear lever but a bit difficult to explain on here!

I have an ECU (new with the correct spark plugs) on Seloc classifieds for £475 smile

C43,i sent steve a spacer device to fit to his Milltek and it seems to have cured his cars ills so far...There were a few codes that i could not see the device curing but then again the non Lotus code reader may have "invented" some of the codes?
If you want to have a go with the device let me know,I have one on mine as soon after the Milltek was fitted, on came the light! Never been on since!!!

yes please that would be perfect. I have tried the capacitor and that did not work. So far have not found a spacer that fitted the Miltek.

I will PM my number

cheers

Thanks, I'm out in the colonies - New Zealand, so probably a bit far to go for the camber set-up. I'll look into it here. A friend just put nitrons on his Elise and what a difference

Hi,
I am in the process of tweaking my Europa. Leaking radiator was the source of my coolant leak, seems to be a common problem. Now upgraded to Aluminium one.

I have the full Milltek to fit, before this is fitted I wanted some advise on the Lambda error codes been generated and how this can be solved. The two options I have seen is the wired option, which I think is adding a resister and the O2 spacer.

I was going to do the O2 spacer, which moves the sensor further away. I was assuming two things; 1 it's only the sensor after the CAT. 2 It's a standard thread and I could just purchase one for Vauxhall range e.g. VX220.

Comments most welcome.

Thanks.
Paul.

On mine it is the sensor after the CAT. I tried the resistor and this did not work, still throwing an error every 50 miles or so. I have fitted a spacer to the sensor this weekend so will see how this goes on.

I had the spacer fitted and since then no codes, no problem. The tech here said they fitted spacers to all sorts of cars when a sports exhaust was fitted because it was common that the hotter airflow affected the sensors. I'm no tech but it's worked a treat. Julian (aka VXAH) on this forum has some great advice and has made a spacer and I reckon that's worth a shot first.

I fill my coolant and the level in the reserviour drops then stabalises. I've replced the radiator cap. What model radiator sis you get and from where?

Cheers

Hi,
I got the replacement radiator from Elise Parts; Aluminium upgraded radiator. Nice piece of kit and its made by Pro Alloy. Costs about the same as the Lotus plastic one. I also got the twin fan mounting kit.

No more coolant leaks, coolant level not dropping now.

Fitting free flow exhausts and getting error codes is very common and not just Lotus. The spacer seems to cure the problem.

Paul.
