A little while ago my mirror which is fixed to my windscreen at the top fell off,the little sticky pad had obviously expired.

Now being a practical chap,I thought this would be an easy thing to re-affix back on the windscreen, but boy it ain't.

First of all I went to Halfords and bought some of their black heavy duty double sided sticky foam which comes on a roll, cut a small piece to fit, ensured both parts to stick were cleaned with meths spirt and fixed the mirror onto the screen.

This did not work as the foam tape which is quite thin but very sticky did'nt keep the mirror from moving on the screen when I am driving,ie it vibrates and you can't see bugger all.

So I thought,I know I'll phone Bell And Colvill in Surrey they'll have the Lotus part I need to fix this,......erm,well they have,it's a Lotus mirror fixing kit,God knows what it's got in it as it costs £32.Now this is just stupid money, the size of this fixing pad can only be about 3cm by 2cm?

Please can anybody help, this is really infuriating, the mirror has to be stuck fast on the screen otherwise as I have said it just vibrates with the car.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated thanks.

Have you tried No More Nails pads/on a roll? I used some to bodge a fix on a bit of loose trim and it worked pretty well.

Bought it from Homebase or B&Q and might be worth a try.

Halfords do a special kit for this which costs about £5 and consists of a thin rubber sticky pad.

The key to this is to make sure that the glass is ABSOLUTELY clean. If it's not 100% clean (and degreased) it won't stick. I spent 15 mins cleaning the glass and the mirror base before trying to fit it. It stuck first time and hasn't fallen off yet!

Had the same problem with the S1.

Gave up. So now I do without a rear view mirror!

I have used the Halfords kit before and it worked fine, I can't believe the cost of the kit from Lotus. I would certainly look around.

Most adhesives that work on glass are UV glues. i.e. they need a fairly intense UV source to cure the glue once the item has been put in place.
Not sure how the Halfords system works, but dont expect any of the non-UV based options to last as long

?? My 03 S2 just has a sucker pad like one you'd expect on a satnav or phone holder. Works fine and I can take it off if I wanted to....

Just get one of the halfords sucker ones for £5
It's not over obvious how it works but once you've sussed it, it stays on for almost a year at a time

Halfrauds do a glue for sticking them on. I may be a Loctite product, not sure. It consist of glue & a little gorse type stuff which you cut to size.
I did mine about a month ago & it worked brilliantly. Tried the pads but the mirror always looked like it was wobbling when driving.
