I've just made the move, they're great! For that money, go for the 240bhp Performance Pack cars, you get bigger & better spec from the off.

Have a look at a Europa, with that budget you could send it to Hofmanns and they'll give you a beast of a car back.

Europa looks like a Pig.

On a 220 car, Christopher Neils will take it to 260 with Genuine Lotus parts for £1975 all in or roughly £1500 for a 240 car so don't get too hung up on a PP car. Tho admittedly the PP cars do have bigger front brakes and the extended roof scoop.

Lotus A/C weighs 15 KGs so don't buy one without it.

Touring pack has leather, sound proofing and iPod lead. Sport pack has the harness bar, slotted seats and adjustable front ARB. Traction control is that only and not stability control so if your a half experienced driver it's pretty much unnecessary.

My car when at 220 was on par with my E46 M3's/Z4M in a straight line upto say 120-130 where it started to tail off, it's now circa. 270-275HP and 0-60 in 4s, 0-100 in 10s and doesn't start to tail off till about 145-150, eventually hitting 160 which feels very fast compared to previous faster outright cars.

I've also thought about an Exige for years but put off by my Elise 2 which was so underpowered that throttle was an on/off switch. Also keep hearing that the Exige is very difficult to collect if it slides in the wet. Any comments?
Tried one at Silverstone but had the impression that the computer was not allowing full power just after apex when still some lock on so was that traction control or simply no power [about 4000 revs]?

I'd say go for it, had mine for a couple of years now.. I don't drive it everyday, but it is my main car so it gets a fair amount of use.

They seem about the most fun you can have while still being sort of practical enough to be a daily driver.. Obviously budget and taste in cars etc play a part here!

If you are happy to rev it hard even the NA is not bad in performance terms, although with your budget you will as people have mentioned be looking at the S or one of the pp variants.

To the sliding comment - like any mid engined car, especially on the A048s it can be a slight handfull if you are too heavy footed in the wet, but it's actually not that bad at all if you take the time to get used to it. In the dry, the handling is awesome.

I absolutely love my Exige in fact it's my second. Great cars and very cheap to run considering the performance. I've just put mine up for sale though as I have a GT3 RS itch to scratch!
