Hi,

I'm running an Elise 'S' (Toyota engine) and the engine management light has taken to coming on and off intermittently.

The car starts, light comes on, and most of the time drives OK. After a drive and a restart or 2, the light goes off. Sometimes the car will start, but drops in what seems to be a 'get you home sort of mode' where the engine hardly pulls.

The frequency has increased recently, but I also had a flat battery after leaving the car for 4 days.

Any suggestions - my local dealer is a fair way away so want to avoid a trip until the next service.

Cheers

David

I don't think your battery should be going flat after leaving it for 4 days so you could have some kind of earthing issue somewhere or a bad connection on something.

I've got an S1 so I don't know if this will be the same for the Toyota cars but engine light on usually means ignition problems.

check the spark plugs, check the HT leads, check the battery connections, check the earthing points, have you replaced the battery or just charged it back up? ask on SELOC; lots of advice on there or take it to a local specialist (again SELOC will be able to assist as there is likely to be somebody close by that can point you in the right direction.

Cheers. The battery was a bit spooky, and seemed to go away quite fast. I've only recharged it but suspect that a new one will be required. I've posted on Seloc so will see how that goes.
