Calling all London based Elise S1 owners..

Hi guys,

I've got a pretty good problem, but a problem none the less. I've dreamt about having a Lotus since i was a little kid and now have the cash to scratch the itch.

Wanting a convertible and not being a massive fan of the S2 Elise's nose I've decided to go for a S1 Elise. Ideally I'm after a 160 Sport or 111S, but having struggled to pin a good one of these down before it sells is proving to be a nightmare. As a result I'm wondering if a standard 118ho car would be 'enough'. My budget is up to 15k, but I know I may only need to spend 2/3 of this to get a good car.

So here's the problem, I've not driven/been in any Lotus for years and I'm not keen on driving up to Pure Lotus / other far reaching dealers, or even waste the time of a private seller unless i'm 100% sure i want the car.

Are there any owners in North London/Milton Keynes who'd be willing to take me for a short spin at some point soon? Happy to pay for fuel/reward with beer

Happy to take you out for a ride when I get mine back from the garage, just getting a new clutch fitted. Mine has a few mods, but doubt it's the other side of 125/130bhp.

Usually in London once or twice a month - currently in northants, so drive along the A509 (and past Melton Keynes) to get there.

With a £15k budget you could get a boggo S1 and build a very nice car (refurbed/uprated suspension, interior refresh and upgrade power to about 150bhp).
For purely road use then a standard car should be plenty quick enough (they tend to run out of puff at about 80 mph), although more is always nice.

I'm fairly flexible (ooh-er!) - I work from home, but have meetings a couple of times a month in London, so either is fine with me. Bring a tape measure if you're still wondering about ground clearance!!

Turns out i'm quite impulsive. Drove a S1 on Friday at Castle Lotus (really nice guys - thanks very much) but went home and found a mint 36k mile red S1 at Pure Lotus i wanted so drove up on Sat and bought it (along with a few bits to help her breath a little more easily)...

Picking her up on Sat!

Deciding on impulse you want an S1 Elise after never having even sat in one, going to pure lotus and buying pretty much the first one you look at?
That's exactly what I did anyway! I'm sure you'll love the new motor!
