Instrument Binnacle Problem - anyone had a similar problem?

Hi All. Got into my car yesterday morning to go to work to find the instrument binnacle all lit up like a Christmas tree. The MIL light & traction control lights were lit up along with the dash illumination (even though the headlights were not on). In addition, the speedo, rev counter, fuel & odometer lcd display all not working. The car starts & drives ok though.

I had a look myself (although I am a muppet when it comes to fixing cars) but could not find anything.
It is now with Steve Williams in Maidenhead in the hope it will be a quick, cheap & painless diagnosis.....

I am just curious if anyone has ever experienced a similar problem on their car? BTW, mine is a 56 Elise S.
