Out for the day today and coming back home after a brisk but not silly run down one of our nicer B roads the engine cut out just as I was turning the corner into my street. It started again at the first turn of the key after 10/15 seconds and ran OK. No warning lights are showing. Plenty of petrol. Battery OK.

Any ideas? The engine has been faultless so far for its 14k miles.

There were some problems with air-con relay causing a spike to the ECU. I think a new type / modified relay fixed it.
What year is the car?
Does it have air-con? And did you have it on at the time?

Its a 2007 - one of the last 111Rs. Yes it has aircon but I dont think it was on at the time.

I have a Elise S which does the exact same from time to time. I replaced the air filter and it cures it for a few months.

Be interested to know what caused this. Happened to mine last week too - first time ever in 5 years. DBW but no A/C. Just moving slowly along in a traffic que (coasting) and noticed battery light and MIL come on. Dipped clutch, into gear and bump started as I was still rolling - not happened again?

Yes it is Gooby. The read out of the ECU this morning lists two throttle sensor related problems, though unfortunately the ECU hasnt been cleared in 3 years and I briefly had an idle speed issue a while back. So whether its the same problem I now have |I do not know.

The ECU fault codes have now been cleared so we will see if it happens again.

Was there not some issue with the fly by wire throttles?
