Have asked something similar on SELOC but wanted to see what the thoughts were over here.

I am putting new discs and pads on. Fast road, maybe 2 or 3 track days in a year and a couple of activity days. Car is a weekend toy.

Currently have Pagid RS42's and hate them with a passion, they are wooden with no feel at all. So dont want them.

I hear good and bad reports about the CL's, good reports come from mainly S2 owners.

What about Mitex and Yellow Stuff?

I have yellowstuff on my S1. They are a bit wooden from cold but work nicely once I start to use them properly. Have'nt had them on track yet but driving the car hard on nice little Welsh roads last summer they were great - feel and power.

I'll probably try Pagid next but for the price (significantly less!) I can't complain about the performance of the EBC.

Fasr road/track pads will provide a noticeable braking improvement, but will probably be a bit noisier. I can vouch for Carbonne Lorraines.

I'm surprised that you find the Pagids to be wooden-feeling. What condition are your brake fluid and discs in? Renewing these and re-bedding the pads can have a dramatic effect on the feel at the pedal.

I've tried Yellowstuff and they were the worst pad I have ever experienced in a Lotus. I actually preferred the Greenstuff my car came with when I bought it, for feel at least. They still overheated and cracked and crumbled the first time on track though.

Pagid RS4-2 were a huge improvement over the EBCs in every subjective and objective way. They were totally worth the extra outlay because they worked so much better and for longer. RS14s were another smaller step up on track, but still ok on the road.

CL RC5+ were on a par with the RS14s on track, but slightly better from cold on the road. I preferred the feel of the Pagids on track, but only marginally.

After experiencing Pagid and CL pads I wouldn't touch any of the cheaper brands again.

Fluid ok, changed recently. Disc have been ok but that is why I am replacing them also. In three years of having the car I have never liked them. I also have braided hoses.

I'm running Mintex 1144s.

They seem very good on the road, reasonable bite from cold and decent feel. Certainly vastly better than the Greenstuff pads that were on the car when I got it, although I appreciate that's not saying a great deal. The only real complaint I have about them as a road pad is that they squeak loudly when braking gently at low speed on cold pads, which is slightly embarrassing in queues of traffic or driving around car parks.

Haven't tried them on the track, yet.

OT: Do braided hoses make much difference? I would like a slightly more solid pedal as mine dips slightly too low for comfortable heal and toeing.

I'd just put a set of Yellowstuff pads on the Elise when I sold it. I thought they seemed pretty good, although I'm gentle on brakes as a rule anyway. I have braided hoses on the Exige, but I'm not sure on the pads - must ask the previous owner. The lack of flywheel effect from the VHPD and the pressure required with the lack of servo makes heal and toe an absolute pleasure though.

IO have RS14s on mine. Work a treat though they are a bit squeally with town driving and you really have to get them up to temp for them to work well. I have also had the odd issue where, in the rain, i have stomped on the brake pedal and it had little effect. They have also taken their toll on the discs. On the plus side though once up to temp they are pretty awesome and if you drive spirited you will see a great improvement in them over the 42s

Ordered today, Pagid RS42 Blue from Elise Parts, didn't like the feedback about the dust from the Mintex.

Most Lotus Track / Fast road boys are going with RS42/14's or CL5+ at the moment.

I have tried all three and all are good.

I will Try CL6's next time.

I think i have decided to go the for CL RC5+ in terms of pads.

I have got one pair of discs, EBC turbo grooves for the rear.

Was going to get them for the front, but has been suggested the Ultimax are better.

Cant help but think i should look at the Ali Belled EP ones too.

Will i notice much difference in terms of performance with the Ali Belled over the EBC?

Also any comments on the wear rate for the ali belled. Are they going to wear better than the EBC?

Cheers

The RS 42 pads rrived this morning, fitted and bedded in by dinner.
Results:
They do the job of stopping me but squeal like a pig's last seconds of life!
I've put copper grease on the rear of the pads too.

Haven't tried EBC pads but have EBC discs and no complaints. Tried Mintex pads and they were fine on road but only lasted a day on track so went to Performance Friction which gave amazing stopping power on track but ate the discs and all but destroyed the wheels with ferrous dust. Now using RC5+ and while they don't stop quite as well as the PF pads they are less aggressive on the discs and very little dust by comparison. Fine on road as well as they are still pretty effective even when cold. Might try the 6+ next as the car is now only really being used on track.

That's really odd, I've had mine for a couple of months, and apart from the odd peep during bedding in, they're absolutely silent. Plenty of copper grease and anti rattle buffer pads too.

Pagid 42's & EBC Ulitmax discs on my Exige S & they are great for fast road use. Was recommended the set up via SELOC & the cost is worth it. My 1st set of Pagids i ran on the OEM discs & they squealed a bit when cold or when slow moving. No such probs with the Ultimax though.

CL pads here; replaced a set of 1144s that I thought were rubbish. Also now run stainless hoses and the combination is excellent on road and track. Great initial bite and no squeal, although you will need anti-rattle pads as they do jump around without them

Essentially 'pad out' (no pun intended) the space above and below the pad as it sits in the caliper, to prevent rattle when the pad moves.

You should have got a set with your pads, assuming you got a full set. I added a note to my order so they wouldn't forget.
