How about 1k for the car minus the engine?

I'd buy it off you for £3,500 with the standard wheels and no engine / HGF K series (if you still have it)!

Or you could just wait for an appropriate K to turn up, drop it in there. Sounds like you've just had some bad luck.

Hi there EliseS1

First of all, your car is worth more money than these offers. You could put the car up forsale on here with pictures or email me and I would make you an offer.

An engine problem is not a major issue for this car if everything else is as it should be.

Even if I don't buy it I could at least give you some advice.

I actually agree with the comment above. Photos will help in a valuation. I know of a vvc engine going for £400 notes which would be perfect with that CR box.

I'd say that if you really want to sell it, keeping the engine in situ will be best - most people who want to do a honda/aidu/duratec conversion choose to do it with cars they already own and have been slowly upgrading in other ways over time.

As mentioned there are plenty of used k's around which you could butcher to put this one back on the road. TBH with a knackered engine, we are probably talking 5.5-6k if the rest of it is tidy.... without, probably a grand below that.

There are plenty out there that might be interested.... it would make a cheap track/race car project for someone etc

FWIW... a standard-ish care is probably around 7.5k with full working engine.... anything more than that would be a real bonus. Mine sold this time last year for 7.5... with 135 head etc. I'd expect that kind of price... if it was running properly.

I bought an Elise S1 2000 model in prefect condition for £8700 with 32k on it last March. Full Lotus service history, paintwork immaculate. If you think you will get £7k you may well be waiting a long time. Best of luck. What you need to bear in mind, people do pay less when the engine has been changed. Or if done by a known garage it may still get a fair price but most people would buy the original car forsale with the original engine number. Any one in the know would pay a good grand less minimum.

I saw a car on ebay, it went for £5k. Had been written off/repaired, no recent service, owned by a muppet. Only person to pay this money was someone who wanted a donner track/race car, i.e. they no longer care about the condition of history, as long as the chassis is straight. I was more than happy to pay £4k more for the real thing!

Hi mate, can you send me more details on this engine.

Thanks.

As for price I would have thought £8-9k with engine and £7-£7.5k without. No way am I accepting less than £7k. Would rather fix it up or just store it.

I do agree, but the car will only be worth what somebody is willing to pay whether it be 1k or 10k.

I do really hate this quote.

Things do actually sell at prices somebody doesnt want to pay. As for the £1k quote.... ?????????

How does that work then?

Are you telling me that you would pay over the odds for something just because you wanted it?

Good on you if you are able to do this.

I have a standard K engine, HG had failed but fully sorted, only serviced by Williams (Lotus Dealer) in Bristol. I have since has a Honda fitted. Though I'm guessing by the comments your not looking for a standard K engine?
It currently resides with Hofmanns at Henley. 250notes.

Had done 88k miles when taken out of the car (99T plate). Approx 80k at time of HGF, work was done (as all had been) by Williams Offical Lotus Dealer in Bristol (who I bought it from). Was done properly, head was skimmed, got a 1k bill for it!

Plenty of people do.

In fact most people were doing this with houses over the last decade. You also have to remember that something will only sell at a price the seller is willing to sell it at. It isnt one way.
Again, I do agree. I had advertised my current car a while back but wasn't desperate to sell. The amount of emails I was recieving offering me 2k less than what I had advertised it for, as if they were doing me a favour! I ended up keeping it because to me, the car is worth more than what people were offering & this is why I said what I said in my first post, it's only worth what people are willing to pay.

Not sure I get your logic on the 'constantly fixing k series' and unreliable nature of them.

Your first engine lasted 80k miles before it had a problem.

You then put in a secondhand engine which had a problem - a garage is saying the head is too thin (?)and liner heights need correcting.

TBH you take a gamble on any secondhand engine and people are likely to say anything about the provenance just to sell it. K series don't normally burn oil through wear at 20k miles, other than the hgf issues they are known to go on to pretty impressive mileages.

Best option could be send the whole lot as is on the back of a low loader to DVA. Might cost you a bit but imho would end up as reliable as anything else.

If you want to sell it as is - dont expect sensible offers. Most people wont be interested in a project. Those interested in a project will be looking to make a buck and will only be interested if the price is right.

I can't see the original post?
I might be interested depending on where you are - but TBH I think anything north of 6k is highly unrealistic.

This really annoys me when people ask for advice & if for some reason they do not like/agree, they delete their posts off. Twa* !!!!!!!

I will be spending alot on a proper repair. The car will then be on the market for around £9k with a newish fully documented low mileage engine.

If anyone wants it for £6.5k without a fully functioning engine within the next month then pm me.

Suitable for someone wanting a base car for a honda/duratec or to go racing.
